That hasn't happened yet with Davis.  The quote was "multiple league sources expect the agent and star to soon deliver word throughout the league that Davis' preferred destination is the Lakers and he'll become a rental player until 2020 with a trade anywhere else".

If Davis had other places he wanted to go he would have waited till immediately after playoffs, or after NOPs season ended to make this claim.

Making it days before the deadline takes out some of the suitors he might have had, making it harder on NOP to trade him anywhere other than he wants.

I wouldn't count what he said before the season as cannon.  I don't think he was lying - at the time he felt it wouldn't make sense to leave.  That could change after the season.  And the story won't be that he broke a promise to STHs.  It'll be that he's moving to another team.
