After agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports told ESPN on Monday that he had informed the Pelicans that Davis wouldn't sign an extension this summer and wanted a trade, multiple league sources expect the agent and star to soon deliver word throughout the league that Davis' preferred destination is the Lakers and he'll become a rental player until 2020 with a trade anywhere else.

"GM Danny Ainge is undeterred on making a trade for Davis, even without an assurance that Davis would agree to an extension with the Celtics, league sources said. Boston has been calling New Orleans for the past year-plus on Davis, and has gathered multiple first-round picks and young players to include in a package for him.

Davis has a strong relationship with Irving, and Boston knows that trading for Davis would assuredly perish any possibility of Irving changing his mind and leaving the Celtics in free agency this summer."

Thought this was an interesting nugget too:

Several teams told ESPN that they're already weighing the possibility of making offers for Davis, including contenders who'd be willing to use Davis to chase a championship this season and perhaps recoup assets lost in a trade to New Orleans by flipping Davis at auction after the season -- or keeping him into the final year of his contract.

The NBA has a player movement problem, and I don't really see a likely way for the league to fix it.

It's all agent driven, they hold all the power...soccer has the same issue except it's multiplied by transfer fees that the agent takes a cut of. Everyone knew as soon as Davis signed with Klutch that Rich Paul was going to push the Laker agenda, I still believe that LeBron James going to LA had nothing to do with Magic or anyone in their organisation, it was James and Rich Paul knowing that in LA, Klutch could have full control over the free agency market after all these years of being shot down in Cleveland.

especially with magic being a rookie GM.

I don't get this.. Why would Davis or his agent say that when they do not have the power..

Sure they are trying to bring the price down.. LA trying it's darnest best to keep Kuzma perhaps.

But they do not have leverage and honestly can just sit this out till July if they want.. Send AD for example to Boston and he can't do anything... Look at the Kawhi situation... Toronto still took the risk despite no re assurance from the forward.

A year with Boston and Kyrie and the fans might still sway things and change Ads mind... Maybe but the point is rich Paul and Co. Are being stupid in this current lock out.

I’m guessing it has to do with the fact that LeBum and Rich Paul are close friends and LeBum can’t find anyone to play with him at the Lakers.

If he forces a trade to LA, with Leonard soon to follow, I don’t think I can watch the NBA anymore

Let's be real, these Lakers young players are underwhelming.
If they weren't a deal would be in place, but Ball (injuries, shot) and Ingram (shot, slow improvement) have clearly disappointed so far. Hart and Kuzma have a starter upside, not Allstar upside.

If I am NOLA I am looking for a deal that has a chance to give me a future a superstar, I just don't see one here.
That's why I don't expect AD get dealt to the Lakers within next 9 days.

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry spoke with Davis on Monday morning and said Davis told him he'd play the rest of the season once he recovers from his finger injury. He was diagnosed with a sprained left finger late last week that was expected to sideline him up to two weeks.

“He plans on playing out the season,” Gentry said on Monday afternoon

If he ain't signing an extension then let him go to LA. Let all these diva bums go to LA to team up with LeBron.

The Celtics shall build from the draft and continue working on Tatum's growth.

It's all to sabotage the Celtics. Have them trade Kyrie for AD. And then AD bolts for Lakers in 2020. Celtics lose everyone in the process. LeBron's Lakers win multiple titles for years to come. An ugly Hollywood cinema.

It would be interesting if the Pelicans and the NBA could prove that the Lakers again tampered then perhaps the league would veto any trade to the Lakers and a huge fine.
