I like the deal. Good proposal.
However, I wouldn't do it. I would stay put and focus on making a huge deal with New Orleans for Holiday and Davis this summer. We probably need every bit of salary for matching purposes.
And I think Ojeleye can be a useful rotation player, when Tatum (and Morris) leave in that case.
About the luxury tax, I hope we're going to pay that kind of money anyways if we make a trade for Davis and go all-in. The Celtics would be the clear favourites to win the title then and the franchise deserves to take advantage of their superb management of the roster and the culture they built.
My dream scenario:
1. Hayward $32,700,690
2. Irving $32,700,000 (cap projected to be $109 million, 8-year veteran --> 30% of the cap)
3. Holiday $26,131,111
4. Davis $25,434,263
5. Smart $12,553,471
6. Brown $6,534,829
7. Baynes $5,453,280
8. Theis $5,000,000
9. Williams $1,937,520
10. Ojeleye $1,618,520
11-15 minimum contracts total around $7,000,000
For a total of about $157 million on salaries + $63,75 million luxury tax = $221 million payroll.
How epic would this rotation be:
Irving/Smart
Holiday/vet min
Brown/Hayward
Davis/Ojeleye
Baynes/Williams/Theis
