PAOBoston mentioned this idea in yesterday's game thread.  I love the idea.

Rozier is hurting us.  He's just not fitting in off the bench.  Having a better ball distributor would help a lot of guys a lot.  His defense, attitude, and veteran leadership would all help this team.  A minor tweak to the roster like that could make a big difference.

I didn’t realize till now how much we miss someone like Larkin.

TP for a well thought out trade that I like, but I would push for some sort of protected first rounder (like getting the Grizzlies pick) in a deal like this.  Rozier only 24 should be a solid starting PG for several years and the Clippers would has his RFA right’s this off-season. Beverly is already 30 and I believe an UFA this offseason, with no upside but I do like him a lot in a back up role.

As Who mentioned we would lose out on resigning Rozier and potentially using his salary in a future trade, so I think we should ask for that pick.   I think a trade if including a solid pick could be a win win for both teams.

I would do that

another idea

Rozier and Yabusele to Phoenix for Bridges and Holmes

Then
Morris and Baynes for Nurkic

Rozier might be able to improve, but he really needs an attitude adjustment. Brad benches guys for blowing defensive assignments. What about benching Rozier when he jacks a 3s off the dribble with 18 seconds left on the shot clock, without making a single pass?

Honestly, for this team I’d rather have Baynes than Vucevic. Better defender, and doesn’t need to shoot - can play dunker and take a j or two a game. Better fit.

We aren't trading Rozier.

Why?

He's going to walk and the Celtics will get nothing for developing him. The time to get something is now.

Irving insurance in case Kyrie gets injured or walks.

This is the only reason I can figure out. There is no way Rozier can replace Irving, not on a team that is going anywhere. He can't even replace Smart in the second unit. Rozier is not a point guard.

Ainge would have to find a defensive playmaking guard to take Roziers place and up Kyries minutes.

I would look for a backup guard and a big man. Augustine and Vucevic would be nice but that would be quite expensive. We are talking Rozier, Baynes and possibly Morris.

The qaundry is how do you get a decent big man without giving up any starters?

Why the need for another playmaker? If anything, we have too many guys that want the ball in their hands, so what we need are guys to be content playing off-the-ball. Getting another playmaker to replace Rozier would leave us with the same problem, just with a different face. Hayward is more than capable to be a key facilitator, especially as he gets healthier.

Agree.  I haven't seen D'Anthony Melton play, but I loved his draft profile and now he seems to be a stud at PG in Phoenix.  I know he's known for causing havoc on defense, and he's  6'4" 200 pounds.  He's the guy I'd like to add to this team.  But if you've seen him play and feel otherwise let me know.
Agree on Beverley being a good get...

I agree Baynes is a better defender.  But Vucevic can get you some easy baskets with his back to the basket post play. And Timelord could fill that defender role until Ainge finds a veteran replacement.  Hopefully there is a buyout candidate. Robin Lopez is heavily rumored to be bought out. He'd be a perfect fit.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

If Lopez gets bought put he'd be an amazing addition. Especially if we end up playing the Bucks in the playoffs
I'm bitter.

Bird’s case can’t get resolved fast enough just so we have that free roster spot.

I feel like we already have a better version of Beverly in Smart.
