It's the Summer of 2019 (or sometime in the future, like 2020 Trade Deadline). AD rejects the supermax deal, and wants out. Pelicans taking offers for AD but they 100% want Tatum from the Celtics in the deal. Would you (Ainge) still do it?

I made a post about this similar topic on Reddit.

Needless to say, I got downvoted and flamed to oblivion lol, also there's this one gem:

Fair.

I’m old and grumpy, but also tend to think I’m right. ☘️

Come on Nick. You should have had the meme, "Get off my blog" then banned him

That tells me they are younger folks that don’t know enough how these things work. Highly unlikely Ainge would be able to swindle Demps this time around. Just too many suitors that want a top 5 player.

The Pelicans have lost five in a row.

Does Davis defend?

Davis does everything at a high level.

He does. Holiday does. The rest of his team mostly doesn’t, because Alvin Gentry doesn’t ask players to play defense. He’s a surprisingly bad NBA head coach, despite having a very good offensive mind.

If Pelicans keep losing and Davis tells ownership he is gone at first chance, Lakers might get him this year with a monster package. Fingers crossed we have a chance in the summer.

We have only just seen what Tatum will be as a pro and it will be magnificent. Yes, we will have to include him barring a miracle kings pick at 2 this year. Tatum is no Al Jefferson either, he will win multiple titles but Davis is no KG either, this is prime age Davis, not 30 something KG(who was still amazing and one of my favorites this century). If Davis says he wants to win titles with Kyrie forever and ever, Danny will have no choice. As much as it pains me to lose Tatum, I am not sure how we let a chance at Kyrie and Davis go. Mind says yes, heart says no...mind usually wins with Danny...

Anthony Davis is a special, special talent. I'd trade Tatum for him in a heartbeat. Tatum has potential, obviously, but potential isn't a guarantee.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I agree.  Tatum is not even close to AD right now.  He does have great potential but potential doesn’t win in the NBA.

Actually overheard a professor counsel a student once upon a time, saying "if all you have is potential, you have nothing."

Let me put it this way, would you have traded Pierce for Tim Duncan early in their careers? Pierce won 1 title while Duncan won 5.

How many titles has AD won?  Why are we so sure he is Duncan?

Take a look...what is Davis doing to WIN.

When we traded for KG, he had no titles and had led Minnesota to the bottom half of the lottery two years in a row.  Sometimes you just have to trust elite talent.

He was an MVP.  Went to the western conference finals with god-awful Steph Marbury. Stop.

Wow. First meaningful post I made here and it's blowing up lol (though the poll looks a bit lopsided I'll admit)

Another question to all. Lets pretend the trade is something like Smart/Brown, Tatum, Williams + Picks + salary (Yabu) as most believe it would be to also help match salaries. Do you think we have enough depth and bench help as well? If not, how could we potentially fix that given it's not like we have cap space left.

Also, I posted this on the main site too, and the poll there actually looks different. You can check here.

They'd be making the deal in the off-season, so they could find veteran minimum / MLE type options to fill the bench.

I would honestly be surprised if New Orleans wanted all that, though.  They don't want to get half our team plus a fist full of picks to boot.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, ultimately, if New Orleans opts for neither the Lakers nor the Celtics --- maybe they pull a San Antonio and try to get a more establish player.

Don't the Wizards own their own 1st round pick this year?  What if the Wiz end up with a top 5 pick and they package that with Brad Beal for Davis?
