I was one who believed in Fultz.
Based on all the information fans had at the time, that was reasonable. Fultz demonstrated amazing basketball abilities in college.
None of us had information about his personality or character. None of us saw him in private workouts. None of us saw the start of the yips before the draft, because he wasn't doing any public basketball stuff.
In situations like that, I think fans get a pass for their perception of a player. It's the fans that wanted Kris Dunn over Jaylen Brown, or Josh Jackson over Jayson Tatum, or something like that that have own up to their evaluation of talent. Those were clearly poor basketball evaluations.
