PHX is pretty much out of cap space now per Zack Lowe, so Smart's not going there.

Phoenix just paid Ariza, Dallas is going to pay Jordan. Don’t know what Indy will do, but is the market for Smart already drying up??

Probably. There wasn't a lot of free cap to go around to start with and people here are over-valuing Smart. Teams have the leverage this off-season.

I can still squeeze Smart into a 4 year $39.4 MM contract and still be under the luxury tax by a sliver after stretching Nader, letting Monroe walk, signing Bird at his QO, and keeping Morris. He should take it if offered rather than the QO and the risk attached thereto.

At that number Smart should take the QO.

He’s better off signing a two year deal because no one will have what he’s looking for next year either, if ever.

Smart should take a 4 year 40 million deal if it's offered with his injury history and the way the cash is disappearing...

I think is a more important signing than Smart. They need him vs the bigs they're going to have to deal with.  I think they could have brought someone else in but Baynes is their best option and returns at a reasonable price.

Yeah. I’m hoping Embiid dunks on him again and gets so pumped up he shoots 7-25 the rest of the game by forcing up a ton of post-ups.

Depends on how risk averse he is and what NBA people think about him. Don't think he'll be getting as many minutes next year to make his case either.

Cash will be flush next year.  Probably triple the teams will have cap space, if not more, and he won’t be restricted.  Additional teams will have the full MLE, and even that will come out near 4/$40 mil.

Wasn't someone around here being adamant that Baynes was going to be the "odd man out", or something along those lines?

Oops.....

It happens. We’ve probably all been wrong a few dozen times.

Woah now, I'm never wrong.  Even when I am ;)

I could see Smart betting on himself and taking the qualifying offer.  I'll be psyched if he does.  So will Danny.

It would give Danny about $2.5MM more to play with. Might be useful on a vet buyout after the trade deadline, but not likely to make much difference.

Very happy to have Baynes back. Plays hard, does the little things to win games and is all about his team, not about himself (like someone else I could mention).

If Williams turns into a productive rebounder/defender, we are suddenly looking much stronger in the post. Could Danny be learning to value rebounding, finally ?

I'm happy with this. I really like the guy. Plays hard and has no problem going after a guy who's trying to posterize him.
