According to Sheron Blakely of NBC Sports Boston, Baynes is not expected to go anywhere else, as signs point to him inking a new deal with the Celtics, including that of his presence during Monday’s NBA Awards in Santa Monica to represent Boston.

Hope so.

Would that be using the MLE?

If so, we kinda have to resign Smart.

No reports, but assume it’d be his Bird rights; so, around $5 million.

I thought Saltlover put a lot of thought into his Baynes thread, but I'm very glad he's coming back.  He plays well with the starters, can both bang and space the floor a bit, and he played great D on sub 7-footers all year long, and Embiid in the playoffs.

Sign me up for Baynes for up to $5.2mm.

Agreed, but it's his non-Bird rights since we signed him last year (as opposed to Bird rights after 3 years or early Bird rights after 2)

Hopefully it's a 2 year deal, if it's only one then he would effectively have a no trade clause
I'm bitter.

I will be thrilled if Baynes agrees to sign for 2-3 year for just his bird right raise. I really like the big man dynamic on this team with Al, Baynes and Theis as the rotation and Yabu and Williams developing behind them.

I’d love to be wrong.  I really don’t like Morris’ game, and would be happy to have him shipped out.  My dream trade is where we send Morris to Minnesota for Keita Bates-Diop and the 2019 2nd they control, they send Aldrich to Phoenix, someone sends cash to Phoenix to pay Aldrich’s $2 million guarantee with a premium for helping out, and Phoenix sends us Alan Williams’ non-guaranteed contract.  This gives us Baynes and one of my draft binkies, and removes my least favorite rotation player.

But I stand by my assertion that Morris will be difficult to move and this will keep Baynes from coming back.  And I’m certainly not going to change that thought based on anything that has Blakely as its primary reporter.

We don't have his Bird rights, he hasn't been here long enough. But you're right that the highest non-Bird offer we can give him without using an exception is $5.2 million or so.

Considering that “Bird rights” isn’t a codified CBA term, that CBAFAQ says of non-Bird rights “Its name is somewhat of a misnomer, since Non-Bird really is a form of Bird rights,” and that Sophomore (terrible user name btw ;)) had the correct range for such an offer, it’s pretty clear this was exactly what he was talking about, and he wasn’t in the slightest bit in need of a correction.

Wasn't clear to me, hence the post. Misnomer or not, people use Bird, early Bird and non-Bird to differentiate three specific types of offers and three specific max salaries.

If you want to be precise though, these three are called "qualifying veteran FA veterans", "early qualifying veteran FAs" and "non-qualifying veteran FAs"...

All fair enough. I meant to write non-Bird but had a brainlock. I blame that on the fact I was typing on my phone before I'd had any coffee. No offense taken.

You're right about that. If I could change my forum name to my name on the main site, I would.
