Will be interesting to see what reports come out about Ainge’s interest now.

If what Paul says is true, then none of this is news to him, and if he’s continued to pursue him even knowing this, then I don’t see how this article changes his approach in any way.

But, again, I find it strange that there’s been virtually nothing come out about Ainge or the C’s either way in the last several days. Seems like they’re keeping things pretty tight at this point, which may indicate.... something.

The article was written in March.  I can't imagine Ainge is hearing any of this now for the first time.

Edit: Actually I'm confused. Date on the article I'm reading is June 12, 2019?

I think that's his point. What we're all hearing now, Ainge heard back in March. If the Celtics have still pursued a trade for AD, they've done it knowing everything we know now.

I am not sure Boston waits on a decision from Kyrie. I think if Ainge has the deal in place it gets done before Kyrie decides.

This shows Kyrie Ainge is serious. If Kyrie still walks, he was never staying in Boston.

Celtics would then have to find pieces around AD. Ad does not need to be convinced to stay in Boston at this time. Kyrie does.

Does this need to be a separate thread outside of the AD one? This article is already being discussed at length there.

I’ll let the mods decide but the article deserves its own thread IMO.

I thought it did too, it's more than just about AD, it's about the shift in power from organizations to players and how guys like Rich Paul (helped by LeBum) have spearheaded that. In a way you can't blame them for wanting to take control of their own destiny. From the article:

Quote
But as the prime facilitator of all things LeBron—whose unprecedented forays into roster assembly, franchise-hopping, and TV and film production have expanded the bounds for an elite athlete beyond recognition—Paul’s every move bristles with a uniquely cutting edge. He has become the go-to agent for the aggressively restless player. “When I’m done [playing] and I’m not around the media every day, I hope that somebody’s continuing to fight off the narrative: You’re the athlete? Can’t have power, and can’t be in control,” James says. “Because you can.”

Money used to be the primary marker of that power, but with the advent of the rookie wage scale in 1996 and ensuing restrictions on max salaries, the expression of clout—and of an agent’s skill—shifted.

“That changed the perspective,” Tellem says. “If the salaries are roughly similar, what can a player control? It’s no longer financial. Where he has his say, then, where he has some control, is in the choice of where he plays and with whom he plays.”

In that regard, yeah - the article deserves its on discussion. But it was presented as proof of why we shouldn't trade for AD and that's a discussion that's already happening at length.

Heaven forbid. Please forgive my transgression.

So quick thoughts on the Rich Paul SI article.

I think people are reading too much into what this means with current negotiations. This interview was from March. It says that in the first sentence.

Don't be so sensitive. I think we can all agree that there's AD overload on this board. So forgive me if I'm just sick of more of the same. Ozgod's angle is at least interesting and something new.

No problem. Just puzzled why we don't merge in other related threads in that case like the one entitled "Mortgage the Future on Davis/Irving"?  Did you have a problem with that running separately? How about "Screw Davis, stay Celtics?" We're getting a bit arbitrary with determining what gets sucked into the AD trade thread, and what doesn't.  Frankly, I never had an issue with new related threads coming out, it creates a bit more attention to any news related topics that come up.

Uh usually they aren't merged yet because a moderator hasn't logged on during his lunch break or hasn't seen it yet.

Give it time or drop them a line and they'll usually streamline things.

Basically my feeling also. Although I would try to move 1 or 2 of the picks for a vet guard.

Would be that long and then some if they trade a ton for AD and he leaves after a year
