I really hope Kyrie stays...

All these rumors are really starting to wear on me, but I would like a definitive answer as to whether or not he stays or goes...

Just saw this on twitter

https://twitter.com/FletcherWDSU

For the sake of discussion lets say this report is correct and the Cs AD trade proposal is the following

Tatum
Smart
Yabu
#14
Memphis pick (not included in post but I assume it would be included)

Looking past is this trade worth it without Kyrie and the risks in trading for AD and loosing him as a FA. I want to ask the question is this team good enough to warrant this trade.

If this trade happens,

I assume the Cs will look to draft #20 and #22 to bolster cheap depth and not look to move these picks.
For the sake of this exercise I will project them taking two NBA ready prospects Dylan Windler and Matisse Thybulle

I assume Rozier is retained

I assume Baynes takes his player option

That would leave the following projected roster

Starters
Rozier
Brown
Hayward
AD
Horford

Bench
Baynes
Semi
Williams
Windler
Thybulle

In free agency the Cs would need to find some offense off the bench in the form of a PG and a Vet wing for cheap. Morris is a possibility but I think he will get bigger offers then the Cs will offer. At wing maybe a T Ariza, J Green, or J Dudley. At PG the first though is a IT return, if not maybe Lin, Burke or go totally crazy and entertain Rondo (not likely). Without diving deep into cap exceptions lets say they sign IT (who gets back to 75% of his former greatness) and Ariza. Then add a 3rd guard (Wannamaker or Larkin), and a second round pick (Admiral Schofield/Chris Clemons)

Starters
Rozier
Brown
Hayward
AD
Horford

Bench

Ariza
IT
Baynes
Semi
Williams
Wannamaker
Windler
Thybulle
Schofield

How does this roster stack up against the top teams in the east?

Assuming Raptors, 76ers, and Bucks keep similar rosters can this Cs team beat these 3?

A lot will ride on the return to form of Hayward. If he is 80% the player he was in Utah, Brown develops further and Terry returns to his playoff form I think this team hangs with those three teams at the top of the east.

I personally am not looking forward to another season of being held hostage by a star and would probably avoid the entire mess.

Also this would be really interesting for NO.

In the draft they land Zion #1 and I would then look to take Bitgdze at #14

Starters

Holiday
Smart
Tatum
Zion
Bitgdze

that is a well fitting starting 5

TP, has ring of authenticity, especially since this guy is a local New Orleans reporter.  I would be very happy with that result. I like your ideas on who we would draft in that case, makes great sense.

I wonder if Kyrie is playing hard ball with Danny and Celtics, and basically deciding to go to the team that lands Anthony Davis.  Whether it is Boston, Lakers, Knicks or Nets. That's in his best interests.

LA fans on Twitter make me want to gouge my eyes out sometimes. From proclaiming Lonzo to be a better defender than Smart to believing that Kuzma & Ingram are both going to be better players than Tatum, it's just a parade of delusion.

Lonzo Ball has had one of the more injury-prone starts to a career in recent memory. Ingram has blood clots, and Kuzma is a relatively old and inefficient chucker. Wonder why New Orleans isn't jumping at the chance!

Anyone who doesn’t think DA is trading for AD regardless of Kyrie doesn’t know DA.

He’ll do what he can to get a superstar, and work with that. If he lands AD, he probably has other potential moves lined up that none of us know about.

Cosign. TP!

Exactly. Plus, you never know what will happen. I bet no Raptors fans expected Siakam to be likely the MIP, nor did they expect to have Marc Gasol starting for them in the Finals when they traded for Kawhi.

yeah, i just don't see tatum or brown getting traded if kyrie leaves.    danny can't be that negligent to the celtic franchise to give up tatum in an ad deal even if he wants to.

they'll just have to be patient and see if they can find another young guy to pair with these guys.

I dont like it unless Kyrie is staying. Next year, NJ and NY could be way under cap even after signing a max this season so guess who probably goes to NJ or NY to join buddy Kyrie if they dont sign 2 this year? I would need an assurance from AD that he will sign(that is not happening).

Our media and some of our fans will surely not be able to convince him to stay without winning a title next year and that is surely not happening with a switch of one superstar for another unless Hayward returns to form and Brown takes a big leap forward. Wait until AD gets a taste of the media if we lose a few games in a row or to an inferior team.

I would rather keep Tatum and Brown this year if Kyrie bolts and wait until 21 where we can add to our team. Danny is a much bigger risk taker then me though but not sure why he thinks we would be able to keep AD long term without something bigger next to him. Maybe like everyone said he has something else planned(Brown out the door for someone we dont have on our radar).

I feel like an AD to Boston deal would be done before Kyrie makes his decision anyway, so I'm not sure why Ainge would wait. He's going to try to get that deal done as soon as possible.

Kyrie may not be the first domino to fall in free agency so I don't think the Celtics can afford to wait. Besides, I don't see Kyrie walking away from AD and the rest of the roster, given that some of the problems would be solved by subtraction too.

Personally, I’d make the deal for AD regardless. You aren’t going anywhere anytime soon with a young core if you blow it up. You’d be a borderline playoff team at best. I’d rather get the superstar here and have a year to convince him.

Toronto gambled on Leonard and they may have hit the lottery. They are two wins from a championship and may keep him long term.

Very true, I would have not taken the risk with Leonard and I was definitely wrong on that. Brown and picks for him would have been a no brainer in hindsight. We might be hoisting 18 this year if we had taken the risk.

this trade just makes zero sense for the celtics if kyrie leaves.

I think Danny wouldn't hesitate to make that deal, with or without promise from Kyrie.  That is still a very strong team, one that could compete for a championship next season.

More importantly, I see Wyc co-signing to that deal.  He often mentions the need to win championships, and to stay ahead of the Lakers in the ring count.  If we are bidding against the Lakers to get AD, I see Wyc signing off on this trade.

I would say If it costs :
Smart + Tatum + 14 to land Davis
Danny should do it.

Maybe he can resign Horford and Morris after that and trade for Beal and Conley .

Compete for 1/2 years and try to convince AD to stay.
It will be ironic if in 2021 the only player from this years team is Rozier.

I'm 1,000,000% fine with trading Tatum in a AD package.

I'm 30% fine with trading Marcus "Heart and Soul" Smart.

I think it's a mistake to assume the Memphis pick is included. If the reporter heard just the #14 pick, I would go with that.

I think the smart thinking is NO doesn't want to draft 4 players this year, so won't want all 3 picks from this year. I also think the smart thinking is Danny retains that Memphis pick, at almost any cost. I doubt that pick gets dealt. Maybe that means they throw in Williams but the Memphis pick isn't being included without some guarantee that Davis is here long term, which isn't happening.
