That's honestly not a bad offer. Sure the Celtics can beat that this summer, but that's still a lot of value.
It's really not that much value. It's a lot of quantity, but you're trading 1.5 years of a top-5 superstar for two average starters, two late round picks, and a bad young PG with some modest potential who brings a huge distraction with him.
Well, New Orleans has to explore the market and collect more assets.
As example:
Let Ball + '19 Lakers pick go to Phoenix for Josh Jackson + Phoenix pick.
Then trade Julius Randle + Darius Miller + Cheik Diallo to Detroit for Jon Leuer and a 1st round pick.
Trade Rondo + Stevenson to Miami for Olynyk + Miami pick.
And then use most of those assets to trade for Beal and Towns. Get a big three of Beal, Towns and Holiday (all under contract for at least 3 years).
If that garbage could bring back Beal and Towns, the Lakers would be making that trade.
Phoenix isn’t giving a #1 for a PG putting up Terry Rozier bench numbers.
Detroit isn’t giving up a #1 for straight garbage.
Miami isn’t giving up a #1 for expiring contracts.
I don't know about Phoenix, they need a point guard pretty desperately and Ball is a very good fit with Booker.
Detroit is out of the playoffs right now, they need immediate help to get there. Leuer is useless, so Randle + a shooter in Miller is interesting for them and Detroit has shown before that they don't care much about their draft picks.
And for Miami getting Olynyk off their payroll saves them a lot of money, since they're so deep in the luxury tax. And at the mean time they get Rondo who can help them in the playoffs. That's easily worth a mid-first i.m.o.
I'm convinced that the Lakers could get Beal or Towns if they wanted to.
But they want the best in the business: Davis.
