Just watched ESPN potential 2019 Knicks team... it would be dreadful for the east if Davis, Durant, Irving were on the same team.  Lets just hope the Knicks don't win the Zion sweepstakes and if Celts can't obtain Davis, he goes to the Clippers or somewhere like that

Right now, I still firmly believe we shouldn't trade Tatum and other assets for a rental.

If we can get creative and deal Brown + $$$ + picks, then I'm okay taking the risk. Giving up Tatum in any package for a rental would be idiotic.

If LAL wants to give up Zubac, Hart, Lonzo, Kuzma, Ingram + 2-3 picks for him, then go ahead. Pelicans will milk them for everything now that it's known AD is willing to extend with LAL (or NYK).

I agree, there is zero desire on my part to trade Tatum for a rental of any kind.

At the same time, Kyrie, Davis, Hayward, Horford and Smart/Brown would be fantastic.

NYK can have Durant and Kemba.

If you are the Pelicans

would you rather obtain Tatum or Zion??

I think this is the main piece ... then its Brown or Knox etc.

Personally I would choose Zion.   Just a bigger market of a player.  The dunks and is younger

Being honest, it depends on whether I wanted to win or sell tickets.

But, I’m a Zion skeptic. The size (short + heavy) plus lack of shooting plus lack of playmaking gives me pause.

But, maybe he’s the next Barkley.

Just checking in to point out that if you have issues both with what Kyrie said yesterday and what Anthony Davis, Sr. said yesterday, you need to really think about why that is.

So I'm wondering if another franchise surprises everyone. Which has happened a lot.

Who saw it coming that Boston and Cleveland traded Thomas and Irving? That New Orleans would trade for Cousins? Or OKC getting George? Griffin being shipped to Detroit? Toronto landing Leonard? Porzingis to Dallas?

The team I'm looking at that could enter the sweepstakes is Denver. They have a lot of young talent and are very deep. If they build an offer around Murray, Harris/Beasley and Porter Jr., how close is that to meeting the criteria that New Orleans sets?

Reports I read is that Murray untouchable.

If that's true then good for us.  :D

I think Zion has excellent playmaking skills especially on the break.  His strong handle helps him a lot in that area.   I guess we can worry about his weight, but he doesn’t have an ounce of fat in him built like a truck. It’s hard to compare his build to former players maybe Larry Johnson but 20 pounds of muscle on him.  Crazy saying this but I look at him as a Bo Jackson level athlete. Agile, quick, fast, powerful..

His shooting is a concern but I think it has promise.  He doesn’t have a broken jump shot. I think he is shooting 27% from 3’s while not great by any means I think will improve, and is taking them a little more.

I have a question for everyone regarding salaries for next season.  Let's assume that Kyrie agrees to stay and Horford is willing to decline his player option in favor of a long term hometown discount.  Here's how the Celtics cap situation looks BEFORE signing Kyrie and Horford:

Hayward - $32.7 Million
Smart - $12 Million
Tatum - $7.8 Million
Brown - $6.5 Million
Rozier - $4.25 Million Cap Hold (Restricted Free Agent:)
Yabusele - $3.1 Million
RWIII - $1.9 Million
Bird - $1.58 Million
Demetrius Jackson - $95,000 (looks like he stays on our books for a few more years)

Total Salary for 2020: $69.92 Million (could be less if the team relinquishes rights to Rozier)
Projected Salary Cap for 2020: $109 Million

In this scenario the Celtics could trade for AD BEFORE giving Horford and Irving new contracts as long as they stay under the salary cap.  Bird rights would still apply to both players after the trade.  Can someone confirm whether or not this is correct?  If I am right, this means that Ainge has significant flexibility going into the off-season.

No salary cap wiz at all, but I think you forgot to include the cap holds for Al and Kyrie.

He looks like a good playmaker to me.  Very high b-ball IQ and amazingly efficient.

You are right.  I don't know what their holds would be until they sign the new contract.  It might be the amount of their player options but I'm not sure how the accounting works if they decline them.

Their cap holds are equivalent to max salaries.
