Sounds like the Pelicans and AD don't expect him to be traded until this summer:

WOJ: "New Orleans plans to issue a statement later Monday, but officials are already privately expressing that the organization doesn't feel pressure to move Davis before the Feb. 7 trade deadline."

@ScottDKushner
"Alvin Gentry said he spoke to AD at length today and he plans to play out the season."

This seems like good news for us: https://larrybrownsports.com/basketball/alvin-gentry-anthony-davis-play-out-season/482568

Per Woj:

"Boston could agree to a Davis trade with New Orleans prior to July 1 and then finalize a trade after that date."
We've all been saying this since like November since we were all informed that we couldn't trade for AD without losing Kyrie due to NBA rules.
And whoever said that Danny verbally promised he would trade Tatum to N.O. in a package for AD is also spot on.
If AD is still with N.O. at season's end I believe we could put together the best package of players and picks. Other teams could as well but it would not create a winning situation like it would here, to the point where AD would consider re-signing, even with losing some of our better young players.

We meant to say it's a logjam at SF, but don't trade all of the Celtics' primary SFs lol. One or two of those three gotta go for Davis though.

Ingram, Kuzma, Ball, Zubak, and two unprotected picks as suggested by Nick Wright on twitter,   that probably does get it done.   I could see the Pelicans doing that deal if the Lakers really decide to go get AD and are willing to give up the farm.  Sucks for us.

Except Tatum is far and away the best prospect out of all of these players, and in the NBA quality, not quantity, rules the day.

Unless Danny has categorically taken Tatum off the table, which is highly, highly unlikely, then New Orleans is likely to wait and gauge Boston's trade package in the summer.

If conversations between teams have gone far prior to this, in anticipation of it, then a deal could happen in next days.
If conversations have not been extensive, then it will be hard to get it down now.
Won't be surprised either way.

As a huge Jrue Holiday fan, I would be okay with a mega blockbuster that gives the Pels enough even if Kyrie bolts...an overpay in other words.  Though I'm sure some will hate it.  As I said I'm a big Holiday fan and think
he fits the Celtics perfectly.  He can play 1 and 2 and is a tough defender with good offense (good enough at least).
I'm also nearly as high on Brown as Tatum (love both).  This draft has excellent wings to back up Brown, Morris and Smart.

Irving, Tatum, Hayward, Robert Williams (Memphis pick if Irving disinclined to stick in N.O.)

for

Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday, Darius Miller

Rozier, Smart, Wannamaker
Holiday, Smart, Brown
Brown, Morris, Smart
Horford, Morris, Davis, Theis
Davis, Baynes, Horford

With Ojeleye and Yabu

Draft Hunter or Hachimura, Dort, etc...

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y7ruakx3   (added Darius Miller to this)

Davis is not coming here if Kyrie isn't here. That is the whole purpose of the Kyrie-recruiting and Danny plans.

They probably should and will,  but everybody acting like a big offer from a team before the deadline won't be enticing because of the Celtics is more wishful thinking then it is absolute.    New Orleans can get tempted with a good offer.

Sure, and they can always make a shortsighted/poor decision.

But logically speaking, this is a no-brainer to wait for the summer.

Philly offers Simmons,  is it logical to wait for Philly to change their minds?  I would say trade AD today for that.

Whatever package the Lakers throw at them now will be there in the summer.

It doesn’t make much sense to take it now. I don’t see how Ingram, Ball, Kuzma, etc are available now but won’t be when the Celtics can bid. They will offer all that and some in the summer. They won’t just walk away because Pelicans turned them down in February, even if Boston won’t meet the price tag.

New Orleans would be wise to pit them against each other and see what extra throw-ins they can get. They can definitely get Tatum and Brown with more (lottery) picks if it’s down to us vs the Lakers.

if Philly's offering Simmons, NO would be smart to turn that down.  If I'm NO, I don't move Davis to Philly for anyone less than Embiid

I don't think Simmons' value is as high as people think, i.e. higher than someone like Tatum. In today's NBA, not being even a threat to shoot the ball is a significant weakness that really hampers one's ceiling and effectiveness.

I'd venture to say that most NBA GMs would take Tatum over Simmons to build a team around, especially given that he's nearly two years younger and does not have any kind of major hole in his game like Simmons.

Not too far but this option is certainly very relative depending on who players A & B are. Not too many difference makers I can think of that are reasonable buy-out candidates. It would be wait till next year for that team.

I’d love to see Ainge have to tell Tatum and Brown they are going to New Orleans in the summer but to kill it for us until then.

No way they can agree to anything binding without it being released to the public, and that would make for a very uncomfortable (and unprecedented?) few months.

It’s more like it would be agreed to before the draft in late June, and finalized in early July.
