Rich Paul is a de facto GM for the Lakers, same as he was in Cleveland. He is making the deals behind the scenes and the NBA can do nothing to stop him. He and LeTurd are driving this ship. They will be the ones that try to circumvent the tampering rules with gutless Adam Silver looks the other way.

All that garbage talk , about Lebron know nothing , is tank of bs  ,  Lebron is not a saint ,   and his CAMP of thugs , crooks ,  arm breakers run the team he is on.

I'm just saying a offer like that from the Lakers is very tempting. It's a legit decision for the Pelicans.

Also, looking at it from AD's perspective, he has repeatedly stated he wants to go to a place where he has a chance to win it all every year. The Lakers are a mediocre team in the much tougher Western Conference. Lebron is going to be 35 years old next season and they would lose all their young guys in a trade for AD. It's not the type of situation that instills confidence in being a perennial contender.

Does AD with a 35 year old Lebron, Javale McGee, Lance Stephenson, plus Rondo beat Golden State? No way.

In Boston, Kyrie is 26 years old, Hayward is 28, and we have much better supporting cast even if you remove all our younger guys except Smart. A much better situation for AD.

Does a lineup of Kyrie, Smart, Hayward, Morris and AD beat Golden State? They would certainly have a good chance.

Per Woj:

"Boston could agree to a Davis trade with New Orleans prior to July 1 and then finalize a trade after that date."

Could get interested if New Orleans ownership fires Dell Demps. There's a lot of talk among their fanbase that he's on his way out, so will he be allowed to complete a trade if he's not the one seeing through the aftermath? Could benefit us.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

This is no different than what they did in Cleveland. Lebrick hand picked guys he wanted, Paul went out as the middle man and deal maker and told the GM what to do. Paul will do his best over the next 10 days to steer Davis to LA.

I have no real faith in Demps esp if ownership wants a deal done. Have a feeling this gets done in the next week.

Random thoughts:

Nothing gets done before the deadline. New Orleans has no incentive to trade Davis right now, when the Celtics can't even make a formal offer (I'm sure that they've already framed the trade informally.), and they get to choose when he goes, not Rich Paul. I'll put 100 TPs up that says that Davis is still a Pelican the day after the deadline (which would turn me from ticked to 1.2X ticked if Davis does end up going to LA).

I think that these trade rumors will negatively affect the morale of the young Celts but, if a deal doesn't get done, the Lakers' youngsters will feel it 10X worse, knowing that they were offered.

Why would New Orleans want Ball, anyway? Not Lonzo. They'd take him. No, the problem comes with Daddy Ball. Can you imagine LaVar spouting off if Junior got traded to Louisiana?

I'd love it if Lonzo (and LaVar) got traded to Memphis, simply because they have blue uniforms.

I don't really understand the "Tatum is untouchable" thesis. I like Rozier more than most, particularly as a starter, but AD would be coming here to play with Kyrie. He's the only untouchable, besides possibly Hayward (because of CBS).

Davis doesn't care about the money in New Orleans. If he goes to LA, somebody will pay him $100m to team up with Shaq for Kazaam 2.

I'd really, really, really rather not trade Marcus Smart.

None of the titles that the Lakers won in Minnesota count toward their total.

Kyrie, Jaylen, Hayward, Tatum and Horford is still an awesome team, even if we don't get AD.

Signing both Davis and Irving after next summer will cost us a bloody fortune. Management will do it, but I'll be paying $37 for my kid's hot dog.

I'm so glad that the trade deadline is earlier. Can you imagine if we had more than 10 days to speculate on this?

Mike

If AD is traded for Zu, BI, KCP and Lonzo, the Pelicans can start a lineup of Zu, Randle, BI, KCP, Lonzo. Hello, New Orleans Lakers

People keep talking about the Lakers.  I'm not especially worried about the Lakers.  I think their young assets are generally unimpressive.  And if I'm AD, I'm not trying to force a trade to LA to play with a 34-year-old Lebron.  I think other teams can give me a larger window of contention.

The team that I'd be worried about is Philly.  If they dangle Simmons+, we're going to have a hard time beating that unless we go in with the godfather offer that Roy mentioned in another thread.  Davis is a better fit for Philly than Simmons and would make them a very serious problem for a long time, provided they stay healthy and Butler drops his antagonistic bullEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline..  I'm hoping that Philly is committed to Simmons, but IMHO that's a trade that makes a lot of sense for all parties involved.

Exactly. And they would have no good picks at all to add.

Hayward is not untouchable, its just that I cant see the Pelicans wanting him as part of a return for AD because they wouldnt want to pay that contract long term after his injury.

Horford makes much more sense as his contract is up much sooner.

Woj:

On timing of telling Pelicans now, Rich Paul tells ESPN: "Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that's the reason for informing them of this decision now. That's in the best interests of both Anthony's and the organization's future."

Sounds like the Pelicans and AD don't expect him to be traded until this summer:

WOJ: "New Orleans plans to issue a statement later Monday, but officials are already privately expressing that the organization doesn't feel pressure to move Davis before the Feb. 7 trade deadline."

@ScottDKushner
"Alvin Gentry said he spoke to AD at length today and he plans to play out the season."

I’d love to see Ainge have to tell Tatum and Brown they are going to New Orleans in the summer but to kill it for us until then.

No way they can agree to anything binding without it being released to the public, and that would make for a very uncomfortable (and unprecedented?) few months.

I'm sure Tatum and Brown would be very happy to know that they will be the featured guys going forward and will have the chance to earn max deals soon in New Orleans, AND still have the chance to win a ring this June before they go to the Pelicans.

Heck, Tatum had also said not too long ago that even he would trade himself for AD.
