The Pels would be idiots to make the deal now. NOBODY can offer what Boston can. But will the give into Davis and his requests? That is the big question.

I agree that this is a move by Paul to try and get him to the Lakers. The Celtics have the most assets but can't bid on him now. Rather then spend a year in green and then go to the team he really wants to be at, by which time LeBron will be that much older, he'd just rather do it now. Yes, the Lakers would lose assets but this is Anthony Davis and he's not a free agent until two years from now, not this summer. The Lakers trade for Davis, then sign a max free agent and they have their big three. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the plan when Davis signed up with Klutch.

The Celtics are in a tough spot now due to Horford's age and Hayward's injury. They still have one card to play (trading their assets for a true super duperstar) but they can't play it if there's nobody available to play it on. Also, very soon we're going to be losing a big chunk of our depth.

There’s no need to panic, the Pelicans don’t have to trade him until the offseason, and they will wait to get the best offer possible

My guess is LA wants to trade for Davis and then go extremely hard after Leonard or maybe Jimmy Butler as a plan B in FA.

Huge news. And it begins.

I would assume New Orleans is willing to hold off on dealing him until the summer, in which case we are 100% in the game.

Disagree

Too risky for NO

He will be traded between now and trade deadline

Book it

Why would it be risky?

The number of offers increases in the offseason. If you are the Pelicans, the more bidders, the better.

Yeah, there’s zero risk for NO in waiting until the offseason. Waiting until Boston can enter the bidding is their best move

So what is Boston's plan B if Davis is moved to the Lakers? It is no secret that Danny has been getting picks for this moment.

I just have a hard time seeing Boston making 3 or 4 first round picks in this draft. Not a lot out there to trade them for. Does he package and try to move up in the draft?

Also can someone tell me Boston's cap situation after this year. I know Mook and KI is are UFA but where does Horford stand? One more year on his deal?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Bad timing for us. I suppose we could upend our roster and center a trade around Kyrie/Morris/pick for AD and Brown/Rozier for Kemba. I understand the former would require finding a 3rd team and the optics wouldn't be great (not as bad as trading Hayward), but if the final result was a team that looked like this:

Kemba
Smart
Tatum
Horford
AD

With Hayward, Baynes, Theis, Semi, Wanamaker, and Williams off the bench (plus a buy-out or two), that would be pretty great (keeping Tatum would be awesome!). I hate to lose Kyrie, but I don't think Kemba is much of a downgrade in talent, if at all.

Pretty important: Woj on Sportscenter still says perception is that Boston’s package is the best, which indicates that Ingram’s value isn’t as high as probably should’ve been entering the year.

If Lakers giveup Kuzma, Ingram, Hart

Then no Celts cant beat that

Unless Kyrie is offered bc Danny is not going to trade Tatum plus Brown

Danny may not have a conscience but he is NOT foolish.

We'd loose a significant anchor for our future in trading Kyrie.

This makes no sense. They want to pair Kyrie and AD. Otherwise you haven’t accomplished anything.

Boston's big three need to be AD, Kyrie and Tatum. Then maybe if Hayward can figure out how to be a functional player again, then you have those 4.

Everyone else is available.

Disagree

Last years unit plus Davis beats the Cavs and also gives GSW a run for its money

Having Davis and Irving but stripping the team elsewhere .... is still not good enough

Jrue Holiday may not be as good as scorer as Irving but still an All Star. And Pelicans have been struggling

Rather have last seasons unit plus Davis

Also consider that both Davis and Irving have been kind of injury prone

Oh-oh...
The thing that gives me hope is that NOLA doesn't have to respect his interests and can wait until the offseason when they could get more (better) offers.

Makes no sense

NO will trade him between now and trade deadline to the highest bidder. But also a team AD will resign with

Why would waiting not make sense?

More teams could make offers, there’s certainty about the draft picks they’d be getting, etc.

Davis has an option for next season

Why would he sit around and wait to be dealt to a potential team he may not want to join?

Everyone thinks Celts have this in the bag. Well what if Danny is not interested (lets just say).  What team with a winning landscape can trade for him and still remain competitive?

NO has lots to risk here also
NO HE DOESN'T

Yeah...I forgot

But i wouldnt rule him out being traded in the next 10 days

What is the pro of Danny waiting?

The cons are he waits until next off season and loses out

Time is now imo
The pro of DA waiting is that he wouldn’t have to trade Kyrie

Well he doesnt have to now

He can trade Horford or Hayward
No, he literally has to move Kyrie in order to get Davis this season. It’s an intricacy of the Rose Rule.

Once Kyrie signs his extension he can trade whatever pieces he wants for AD

Eh?

Explain

Matching salary (horford or hayward) plus goodies (rozier, brown etc)

Why does it have to be Kyrie?

So if Davis is traded between now and deadline he has to be traded for an allstar (incl in the package)?

I dont get it

NBA rules. The kind of extension Kyrie and Davis are currently on have a provision in the CBA that prevent teams from having two of.
