Can't see a Davis trade to Boston happening until 2021. First, Kyrie has to opt out this year and sign a new contract to get rid of the Rose Rule. Second, I can't see Davis giving up his Supermax contract because he would lose close to $33 million. Then once he signs the Supermax, Davis is untradable for one year. So if Davis doesn't want to lose $33 million, he will be with the Pels until the summer of 2021. Here's a good article that explains it.

Isn't this the same situation that Kawhi was just in?  Davis could go the same route.

Yes, but Leonard was angry with Spurs management over their handling of his injury and the clubhouse had turned against him. Davis never had such problems with the Pels management and actually has come forward stating how happy he is in New Orleans. Last year he said that Pels club was the closest team he had ever been on. I don't see him giving up anywhere from $33 million to $84 million. His environment is just not toxic.

All of what nick said is true. It's also worth noting that Kawhi requested a trade to LA and got shipped to Toronto.

Sure, especially if you don't include the Sacto pick.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

You can't trade for Davis this year while Kyrie is on the team. It's called the Rose Rule.

I’d do it.  I have a feeling that the Pelicans would want someone other than Wall as the main player though.  I wouldn’t want Wall if I were them.

Obviously this is very circumstantial but if the Wizards continue to have problems with Wall coexisting with Beal and the Pelicans fall well out of the playoff race this trade would benefit all involved.

- Wizards get a leader and defensive anchor in Horford and a secondary ball handler with massive potential in Rozier.

- Pelicans get an All-Star in Wall who is locked up for the future and maintains their competitiveness, Williams is a potential starting centre and will a war chest of picks they can either flip for another star or build a contender while continuing to compete.

- Celtics get the final piece of their super team in Davis.

And again....it can't happen as long as Kyrie is still under contract this year.

Isn't the Rose Rule voided if Kyrie signs his max deal with Celtics thus allowing a trade for Davis?

Among other issues, the Jrue / Wall fit is a tough one.

$65+ million per year for their backcourt is a tough sell.

He can’t sign a max deal until the off-season though.

Was about to say this.

Can’t imagine spending well over $50m on two backcourt players being an appealing notion for many, and trading guys part of our rivalry with the Wizards to them would feel wrong

You are pretending John Wall is a valuable trade piece. He is an all-star level guard, but he has one of the worst contracts in league history.

His lacks leadership qualities and his longer term injury and conditioning prospects make him close to worthless.

I think they'd much rather have Rozier.

I apologize if I’m a little slow this morning, but is this an open forum to come up with other trade ideas to help rivals?

Also, am I missing the point of this discussion? Are the Celtics improving Washington, who give up the second best player in the trade and receive a 32 year old Al Horford, a back up PG and an end of the bench overweight player? Is the point for Washington to dump long-term salary in this scenario?
