Yuck.

The “the season is over” crowd is probably overreacting a bit, but he’s a smart player and a fun one to watch.

Can we get another DPE? We have a month to sign someone for playoff eligibility

Season over for sure now?

I don't know if there's any decent bigs available. Danny passing on getting tyreke evans suddenly looks like a bad decision

Ugh, this season is a wrap.

I don't know of anyone walking the street or anymore buyouts. I doubt they take any chances on Bosh.

We just aren't going to make it with Horford, Baynes and Monroe.
That big rotation is perfectly fine.  I mean what team in the East has this scary big and deep team down low for which those 3 guys aren't sufficient.  Or for that matter what team out west poses the same sort of problem?
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

We have been very unlucky in terms of injuries this season. What's worse is that Kyrie's knee is bothering him too...

Who's out there as a FA big man that we could pick up for the vet min and has playoff eligibility?

Theis wasn't just a nice surprise, he'd become arguably our 2nd most important big. Effective in his role.

Not much argument needed... he was clearly 2nd best big. His production cannot be substituted because he was posting All NBA team levels of defense.

This will be a massive loss.

Oh no, just read that.

In spite of the nice record and performance this team has just been snakebit with the injuries. Hope it stops here.
Baynes is clearly more important.

Except he isn't.

Pay close to VORP. It's a metric that is biased towards players with more minutes played to give an accurate representation of actual contribution instead of theoretical contribution. Theis plays less and has a much larger VORP. a 1.1 differential is quite large considering the highest score is 7.0, James. Al Horford is #20 with 3.1.

I understand that Theis isn't a flashy player, but he is a VERY good bench player because he's posting top 100 numbers. When you get top 100 stats contribution from your 15 minutes a night bench player, that's nuts.

Great rookie season.  We will miss him but thankfully Monroe was signed.

Only a bit, in my opinion.

Watching the game slip away with 3 of our starters unavailable was painful, especially seeing how gallantly our guys played.

Losing Theis (whom I love), in a vacuum, is not insurmountable, but, REALLY, WTPh???....Hayward, now Brown, Horford and Irving..... 4 of 5 starters AND all young guys (Horford,by big- standards is not old).

AND, now Theis.

Trying to think of this many front-line injuries occurring to such young players occurring at the same time in my life of watching the NBA, and I'm really hard-pressed to think of anything like it. This stuff doesn't happen to other teams.

For anyone wondering, this is how it happened.

Theis grew to be one of my favorites. Such a multi-faceted player.

Let's not pretend VORP for basketball means anything. It has Andre Drummond ranked 6th in the entire NBA (Curry is 8th and Durant is 12th). It's a box score estimate, so it's pretty much yet another inherently limited one-stop-shop measure of tangible player production.

Dancing bear will be called back up. But can’t replace Theis.

Yeah, but he can DANCE.

Joking aside, if we have to lean on Yabusele for meaningful rotation minutes, we're rather cooked.

Theis is 10th in the rotation. It sucks he is hurt and won't be back for the season but as Monroe got more integrated, Theis' minutes were going to disappear anyway.

I am also not worried about Brown. He'll be back 100% in a few games. He is already listed as day to day.

Horford is just sick. He'll be back probably next game.

My concern is Kyrie. We need a 100% healthy KI to make the ECFs. Hope he gets this fixed during the offseason.

I don't think that's true. First, Monroe is a fundamentally different player than Theis. And then, even in the playoffs you need 4 rotation-capable bigs.

Reducing the (meaningful) big rotation to Horford, Baynes, and Monroe will be an issue. Both Horford and Baynes need periodic rest, and Monroe has defensive limitations.

Sucks but I've got a feeling Morris and Monroe can make up the difference. This season isn't over. Maybe even Yabusele, see if the kid has matured any the last couple months.
