Assuming our front court stays healthy we don't need Monroe to be a consistent threat in the playoffs.  All I am hoping for is a 5-10 minute stretch of impact basketball during the course of a 7 game series.  He was able to provide this spark multiple times against Toronto during last years playoffs.  Theis and Baynes are give us more of what we need consistently, but Monroe's combination passing and low post scoring is unique compared to the rest of the bench.

That's hard to say about Theis, who is still a rookie who's never seen action in the playoffs.

I think the Celtics should always try to stay as big and physical as possible. Just bully people in the paint. Whenever Brad tries that small ball junk, we are just giving away our biggest advantage. We have all this quality size now, use it as much as possible.

The least rookish rookie since like Petrovic?

I am DEFINITELY more comfortable with Theis being the primary big off the bench...

Monroe will come in handy in patches when people like Whiteside start clogging the lane.

I agree when it comes to Theis.  He is a super intelligent player that understands his limitations.  I'm not worried about him come playoff time.

IMHO they should both be primary bench players. Our improved size up front is and at the 2 are really our big improvements over last year with Hayward out. Last year we fielded lots of small lineups with IT, Smart, and AB. Our FC was AJ and KO, one of the softest, worst rebounding FCs in the league. The way we're really going to improve this year is to be a lot more physical and big to perform better..

Monroe is more skilled than most every non-stretch center. That doesn't mean he is better, particularly due to athleticism, but he is more skilled than most every non-stretch center.

CBS values skill. Monroe's skill will be useful in matchups against other non-stretch centers. He can outplay them in stretches and swing entire games because he wins that matchup.

Speaking about Theis... why was he doing mop-up duty against the Grizz if he has a balky hamstring? I remember tuning in late in the game and going, "Wow, he started and still has to close a game that's definitively signed and delivered"...

  • On To Banner 19!
Classic over-reaction, over correction to the over-reaction, and then an over correction to the correction.

You know, maybe we should make these kind of threads right before the playoffs for every single player on the roster.

Then we'd be unstoppable en route to Banner 18 with every player (Semi, Nader, Yabu, etc. included) playing superb!

BUMP again!

Seriously, lets make some of these kind of threads for all our players come playoff time

Monroe was probably our best player out there with his overall impact (Morris a very close 2nd). Too bad CBS subbed him out for Horford in the final stretches of the game though.
