Greg Monroe a big liability???

This blog has been screaming for a big who can rebound and score. Okafor and Monroe have been discussed ad nauseum on this site for years as necessary for having an inside pressence. We finally get Monroe and after 82 minutes of play, he's a liability that isn't needed.

Dang, how about we give the guy a chance?

No, we expect immediate help and excellence and expect Monroe to play like Anthony Davis.

So far Monroe looked as slow as mud. Maybe he can help us at one point, even though we have Baynes as a true 5. His no spacing, poor defense combo is not that popular.
Theis looks much much better and more versatile than Monroe. I am 100% certain that he is the superior player now.

The stats are showing just how poorly the Celts play with him on court-both offensively and defenseivly.He is a liability on switches something Boston is very good at.Obviously Horford and Theis are good at this even Baynes has good lateral.I realize it takes time to integrate but Monroe is a whole different animal than what we are used to and Brad and his teammates need to figure out how to work this or just write the experiment off.What are others thoughts on this?

Look i was not blaming or angry those were not rhetorical questions.I don't understand the skills of centers and even less so when they are at odds with teams style of switching defense.
I often resonate to what i read and an article with visual frames pointed out Greg's worst areas
during one very poor period of play.
I want Greg to preform well and be an asset .
It was more than implied that Brad and teammates needed to solve his usage.
And i was not trying to prove a point BADANOV but posted stats from the article.
My point was" questions" and how they would be solved.
1)getting in game shape
2)tailoring game
3)matchups
4) give it time, he had no pre season,no practice ,sparingly used at Phoenix
5)adjust expectations

I have also been disappointed by Monroe but Im confident he will have a few big playoff games in the early rounds that make his signing very worth while.

I also think it should be noted how well Theis has played since Monroe has signed with the team. I think Theis is rising to the challenge of keeping his role.

I am almost convinced that CBS does not know how to coach old fashioned big men.   He is a modern stretch the floor guy.   So far, he has shown little ability to adapt to Monroe.   The real big value of the Monroe trade is that it has lit a fire under Daniel Theis and improved his play.

I was thrilled when we got Monroe,  but after seeing him he is playing at a much slower speed then the Celtics.  I just wish CBS would use the opportunities to see where he fits in.  Like when you have a 30 pt. Lead against Grizzlies.

This is incorrect.  Monroe is not a scrub.  He will be used against bigger centers regardless of the score.

Hurray for Super Small Sample Sizes!!

Here is another one:  28 total rebounds in 170 possessions played for a rate of  16.5 rebounds per 100 possessions!  Tops on Celtics!

Second place:  Theis at 15.2 per 100 possessions.

And note:  Monroe averaged 17.8 rebounds per 100 at Phoenix and 16.4 per 100 at Milwaukee.  So his BOS rate is actually pretty representative.

Hasn't this blog been whining for rebounds most of the last decade?  Now, we finally have a legit, elite rebounder and ... disappointment because he might take a few games to get up to speed?

Monroe has played just 82 minutes for us.   That's an absurdly small sample.  And that includes the two games right before the break when the entire team laid a couple of big, giant smelly rotten eggs.

A little bit of patience is probably called for here.

Sure, patience will be helpful in this case.  But, I just think statistics are vastly overvalued on this blog.  The eye test isn't given enough credit here.  Posters like rollie, for example, provide qualitative evidence of someone's strengths/weaknesses/growth, etc.  If Monroe is in or near game shape, you don't need 80 minutes of data to identify that he seems, at the very least, to be slow and play a relatively dated game. 

There is a reason these guys are bought out, and in Monroe's case, bouncing around the league quite a bit in the past year or two. 

That's not to say he won't contribute in the playoffs, perhaps even have a significant impact in a playoff win or two (e.g., James Harrison).  In fact, I think he will (just as I did JH).  But he wasn't going to change the game of basketball in BOS.  The overreactions of CelticsBlog are more often than not optimistic imo.

My "eye test" is better than your eye test.

Veterans are bought out for lots of different reasons that often have nothing to do with their ability to contribute on other teams.

No one ever suggested Monroe was here to "change the game of basketball in BOS".  That's a straw man.

Its brutal trying to watch Monroe.  He sure isn't the Monroe I remember.  Either he's just out of shape and needs minutes or he's aged really fast.  I'm hoping he comes thru at playoff time.

Takes awhile getting adjusted. Plus he isn’t getting many minutes because let’s face it, Daniel Theis was a great find & fit for this club. Add those two things up and that makes it tough.

Monroe is fine when Baynes and Horford get into foul trouble.

The second he enters the game the opponent attacks the paint. The entire league knows he struggles to defend, mostly because many have kicked the tires on acquiring him in the past.

The best bet is to have Theis on the floor next to him to take up some defensive slack. But the disturbing part is he has little effect on offense just yet.

I'm sure he'll help on the boards, and score a little down low eventually. I was excited to see him come to the Celtics at first, but after watching him these last few games he looks like he doesn't fit with the  Celtic style of play.
