I said earlier I didn't think Monroe was a Danny type of big, and I still don't, but after thinking more about his game, especially his passing, I think we intend to use him like a poor man's Horford off the bench - without the spacing but with the ball running through him in the midrange and down low.  Excited to see how it plays out.

MOOSE

Man, am I jacked. Been on the Moose train for a long time. Was real disappointed when we didn't even give him a sit-down when he entered FA after he had the courage to take the QO from the Pistons.

Now that he costs so little and fits the needs of strong, big rebounder and inside scorer and insurance policy and Horford rester, I guess he's more valued.

Aside from all his obvious positives (rebounding, passing, low-post scoring, durability), one thing that's rarely talked about is his willingness to run the floor. You guys will be pleasantly surprised about that.

I know for awhile there at the end of his Bucks' stint to the beginning of the Suns' banishment, he wasn't in the best of shape. Hopefully he is now, and if he is, you'll see him running the floor at every opportunity.

Moose is still young and has a lot of room for growth. Glad he'll do some of that growing here.

Now, one more 'Reke present under the shamrock tree, and watch out Dubs!!!!!

100% agree.  So excited to get moose. Crazy people can't see how this and possibly tyreke makes us a favorite in the east.  We move the ball too much for an old Cleveland team to hang with us plus that they have no clue and are just a bunch of washed up parts bodes in our favor as well

Foul, Completely agree. He is neither CBS' nor Danny's prototypical player. What corroborates that is our apparent complete lack of interest when Moose entered FA. But he is going to pleasantly surprise a lot of people.

Now that he's cheap, getting him was a no-brainer, perfect CBS system fit or not.

I start him. Baynes can't finish at the rim and gets beat out time and time again for rebounds.

TP........Cavs could even lose to Raps and, if Wiz and Wall are healthy, them too.

And welcome to The Moose Train: All Aboard!!!

who can blame you! besides Gordon Hayward i think most of the poster "secretly" wanted this guy as well for the like last 2-3 years.

this puts us in even better chance of competing THIS year

I haven’t been posting long, but I’ve always wanted Monroe. Exactly the kind of player we have been missing.

It's funny, because I wanted Monroe a lot BUT never thought he was worth a max deal at the time of his FA (and back then, cap space was a lot lower so max offers weren't as high, but I thought Monroe was just a solid starter, not really an all-star).

Now here we are, with him coming here for just $5M and likely contributing to a deep playoff run  ;D

So by adding Monroe using DPE for $5M, can we hypothetically re-sign him for next year with a 125% raise (so 6-7M next season)?

I figured the logic applies since if we had signed him for 8.4M, he could have re-signed here for 10-11M next season (that's what people here said before).

I've generally liked Monroe for a while. Not for the price that some people wanted to pay and not for his inflated salary but in this case? This is a steal. This is like getting free money.

He shouldn't generally start. The Celtics 1st unit doesn't usually need much scoring and while we do get hurt on the boards our scoring overcomes that.

The 2nd unit needs help. Theis is the only reliable 2nd unit true big as Morris is a 3/4 and he's the only guy who can consistently score for that unit. Rozier is getting better but he's still an offensive liability. But when you roll out a 2nd unit of Rozier, Morris and Monroe? That should be an effective unit (and all of this without Hayward taking up 1st team minutes) on both ends of the floor. Then if we're getting killed on the boards you bring in Monroe to the 1st unit. He won't kill the offense or defense but will clean the boards.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

120%.  $6 million max.

Wow. Solid pickup.

And Danny STILL managed to lowball him by only giving up $5 mill of the $8.4 we had to give. Way to not bid against ourselves as many teams would've done.

How is this a low ball?

There is only half a season left and he was bought out

Plus Celts offered the highest amount
