If brown can pull his ft % over 80 and focus around the rim, he's going to be a really scary dude. Someone of his size, speed and footwork only comes around every so often.

I'm just worried those are big asks. He's only 21, though. Fingers crossed.

He is going to be so dangerous going forward if he continues to hit that three pointer at a respectable clip. What it does is it makes him unguardable because with a respectable three point shot and one of the quickest first steps in the league you have to pick your poison when you guard him.

I can't more strongly disagree that Jaylen is not an elite leaper! I TV'od one of his dunks last season and watched it in slow motion many times and I am quite sure his head was within 6 inches of the rim. That would put his vertical on a dunk at around 36 but the thing is you dont jump as high with the ball in your hands, on average, as you do without it. I once read that Jordan's vertical as only 42 when dunking the ball.

I just watched a highlight reel of many of Jaylen's dunks and I think that it just appears that he isnt an elite jumper because he seems to jump only high enough dunk and not waste much effort. I think we need to see a clip of him blocking a shot with a good step or two to really see his true jump. I am estimating that he has close to a 42 inch vertical. Btw, my vertical was very close to this too so I am speaking from experience.

Something to consider:

Remember last fall when some here thought Avery Bradley had taken yet another leap? When he was being whispered as a possible All Star? When he was rebounding like mad? When he had arguably the best months of his career?

Avery Bradley, November & December 2016 (approximate): 34.7 mpg, 17.5 ppg, 7 rpg, 2 apg, .555 TS% while often guarding the best back court player of the opposition. On a PER 36 basis it's 18.1 & 7.3. That represented some of the best basketball Bradley ever played. We rejoiced in Avery's efforts.

Jaylen Brown this year: 9 games, 32 mpg, 15.6 mpg, 6.6 rpg, .9 apg, .556 TS% while often guarding the best back court player of the opposition. Now normalize that to PER 36 and you get 17.5 ppg and 7.4 rpg - numbers that are scarily close to Bradley's.

Now I'm not saying that Brown is as good as Bradley at his peak. But he's close and getting closer all the time. If 9 games into his 2nd year he's at that point....well, the future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.   8)  8)  8)
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Maybe he should waste some effort and jump higher because he seems to miss more dunks than anyone else in the league.

Nostalgia is strong with Celtic fans. Love the numbers. Bradley knew his spots better than Brown on offense, but the numbers are scary comparisons.

He needs to settle down when he goes up but he is getting better.  I like the aggression.

It's funny because I have been high on Jaylen since we drafted him.  I expected him to come in last year and attack the rim hard and be good there and solid on d but do nothing else.  Instead he played much more reserved and could shoot 3's.  Now I feel like we are seeing him attack the rim really off that.  It's a better path than I expected.  Like I said, I feel like he just needs to relax at the rim.  He has gotten better than last year at it but he will improve even more and become a star.

He just misses some dunks.  He also has some crazy ones so you can't hate.  He almost had an amazing one he got fouled on against OKC and there was the one against the Kings on Willie Cauley-Stein where he actually made it a lot harder on himself and still dunked on WCS.  He is definitely a top level athlete.

I think this is true so far, but most guys can't even get to the rim when he is getting there to attempt it, and once he relaxes and puts those down we are talking about a guy who can be a star.  Not just dunks but missed layups too.  He also has shown ability on the boards and could be a big time offensive rebounder.

He's also 6'7".  It makes a difference.  Celtics fans got so used to being undersized they still even look it off but it's a huge reason the defense has been better.  It matters at any position.

He's starting at SG with Kyrie at PG over IT and AB being both so undersized at the guard spot.

Nice purple haze reference. TP

I need him to break 70% FT shooting consistently . I don't feel that's asking too much.

His athleticism is superior. His attitude is excellent. His body is NBA ready. He needs to improve ball handling, shooting, and finishing.

I think the Celtics hit big on a draft pick for the first time since Rondo.
