Crowder was a starter that was a plus defender who averaged 14 PPG, got 5+ RPG and scored efficiently, especially last year with a TS% of 61%. This all while playing 30MPG.
Simply put, Ojeleye will never achieve this type of success with the Celtics because he is going to have Brown, Hayward, Morris, and Tatum in front of him.
If Semi is ever going to eclipse Crowder as a player, it will be for some other team. It won't be here.
I respectfully disagree. I am not suggesting this will surely happen but there is a "Semi"-realistic path to it.
Lets fast forward 2 years:
- Semi develops into more rounded role player by then. Defending 3, 4 or 5 positions on switches, hitting open 3's. Playing within himself.
- If we truly trade for AD, one of Tatum/Brown will probably leave.
- Morris's contract is up and he is out, Looking for a better paycheck after his longterm bellow market deal.
Some 50-55 wing minutes have just become available.
I could imagine Semi playing 25-28 mpg, 5 less than Crowder did, and matching his contribution. I don't think it would necessarily come up in a traditional boxscore. Crowder also had much less talented teammates than Semi currently has, so he had more space and opportunity. Now, Crowdy would hardly log the minutes he did last year even with GH out.
3&D guys, Ojeleyes archetype, are so interchangeable, if/whoever gets injured between our 2-4 spots can be replaced by such player.
