The kid sounds like he did too much LSD or something.

Regardless, so long as he plays well and gets along with teammates, him sounding like a more wordy Carl Everett doesn't bother me so much.
Lol. Passive aggressive.

"Look, look. Here it is. All I want to do is be able to have that open conversation," Irving said. "It was all an exploitation tactic. It literally spun the world—your guys' world—it spun it into a frenzy and proved exactly what I thought it would do in terms of how all this works.

"It created a division, or, literally stand up there and let all these people threw tomatoes at me, or have somebody think I’m somehow a different intellectual person because I believe that the Earth is flat and you think the world is round. It created exactly that."

He elaborated on his latest comments.

"It became like, because I think different, does that knock my intellectual capacity or the fact that I can think different things than you?" Irving asked. "That was the intent behind it. Do your own research—don't come to me and ask me. At the end of the day, you’re going to feel and believe the way you want to feel. But don't knock my life over that.

"When I do something, I know my intent. And it proved what I thought it would."

Ah the classic Puppetmaster Gambit. Next up will be the "I'm not even mad, I actually think this is funny. You're the one that's mad".

Weird seeing the world steadily taken over by people who've been deeply marinated in pure Internet.

Lol. Passive aggressive.

No doubt, although most 25 year olds are kids to me these days.

He doesn't really believe the earth is flat.  It's obvious from his interviews.

As Roy pointed out above, no, it's very, very far from obvious. It's pretty much the exact opposite of obvious.

He wasn't concocting some social experiment when he was on the Road Trippin podcast, he was just shooting the **** with teammates on a plane.
of course he was.  He was trolling the whole time. He said exactly that a couple of days later, which he confirmed again

Edit. I put a link about this awhile ago but this one basically acknowledges he was trolling the whole time and it was during all star festivities right aftwr the original pod cast. http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/news/kyrie-irving-flat-earth-nba-all-star-game-2017-cavaliers/gynkx4io08dr1fgc0p36swesq

Was he trolling about the stuff that got less attention? The Kennedy assassination, the stuff with Bob Marley and Jamaican assassins?

Again, that link doesn't reveal what you claim it reveals. He does not admit to trolling. He does not admit to actually believing the earth is round.

Nope. He clearly wasn't trolling about that stuff, either. He's got an open mind to conspiracy theories and he shared that casually with two teammates in their podcast. He made more sense being geniune in the podcast than he has trying to explain it away since.

"Kyrie still doesn't deny world is flat, gets defensive"

But seriously, between stuff like this and the whole NFL kneeling ordeal, I don't understand why people care so much what these professional athletes say/believe. They're paid to play a game, not commentate on social, religious, or philosophical issues, so who cares what philosophical or political beliefs they have?

I mean, half of them can't even speak properly or tell you the proper time to use the words "was" and "were," so why people are putting so much stock into what these guys say and think is beyond me. They're famous for their brawn, not brain.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

It's hard to imagine someone born in Australia, who flies in airplanes frequently, could consider that possible for more than a moment.

Living in Australia, it plays with your mind. Walking around upside down the blood runs to your head. Those planes taking off and looking up at the ground, freaky if you aren't used to it. I'm not sure you understand the gravity of this situation.

He was trolling.  I really cannot believe people still are holding onto this idea Kyrie really thinks the earth is flat.  Yeesh.....

This.  100%

Seriously, I couldn't care less what they think about much of anything.  Sure, if an athlete want to take the time outside of sports to demonstrate they have a solid understanding of an issue and "take a stand" on the matter, that's fine with me.  But athletes just answering random question from a reporter or sending out some 20 word tweet is just not worthy of much consideration.

I really dont care about athlete's opinions on things outside of the sports world. We never really have enough context anyway so I try not to  jump to any conclusions about how their opinions sporadically revealed through interviews or off the cuff tweets correlate to their quality as people. I dont know any of these guys and I am sure alot of athletes who seem like jerks would surprise me if I got to k ow them. Im also sure many athletes who put out a squeaky clean public persona would deeply dissappoint me if I got to know them.

I do know that when details about the truly great players come out to the public, they are all just a bit "off" compared to the way most humans think. You already see it with Brady . Jordan was a competitive maniac.

Thinking differently about things is not a bad thing. What I get out of what iriving is saying about this flat earth thing is he does not just blindly accept what people tell him. He tries to be open minded by the extreme definition of open mindedness. An alternative is he doesnt truly believe any of this stuff and is just trying impress people by appearing different. Who am I to judge especially since I really dont know the guy? At least he's not trying to shove it down our throats or sell us an expensive cookbook saying water can prevent sunburn like my favorite football player of all time is doing..

I actually think the quirkiness combined with his frequent mentions of perfecting his craft and wanting to prove to the world that hes more than the "iso kid" are great signs as it pertains to basketball.

Seems like a hyper competitive dude who cares about winning and might just be trying to look at the world through his own lens. Fine with me. I think this guy has another level of play than what we have seen so far in his career and hes dying to show the world. Pretty sweet it will be in Green.

Why does he have a need to get a rise out of the media with such nonsense?  Aren't there more useful topics to serve that purpose?  I like Irving, but this thing is a total waste of brain energy.
