...when you trade your best player who led your team to the #1 seed playing through injury, playing through grief, bleeding green, producing at a historic level, and also willing to take LESS money....all for nothing but to get traded to your rival team that you still aren't close to beating. SMH

Kyrie doesn't extend here.

Horford and Hayward know now not to get houses here they could be out the door for Davis or whoever is the next supposed upgrade.

Our young rookies will hold their breath every season until the trade deadline passes...no one is safe.

Oh AND we gave up a blue chip pick.

AND we have no bench.

It will be sad sad sad day when all we have to show for all of this player turnover is two 2nd round playoff exits. :-\

1. There's zero evidence that Thomas would have been willing to take less money. Getting shoes that say "Back up the Brinks Truck" isn't indicative of wanting a team-friendly deal. Thanks for playing, please try again.

2. There's no evidence that Kyrie doesn't extend. Thanks for playing, please try again.

3. Hayward and Horford are quite comfortable, thank you very much. Thanks for playing, please try again.

4. No one is safe on any team. This is the nature of professional sports. Thanks for playing, please try again.

5. We gave out a blue chip pick to get a blue chipper. Certainly not the guy I wanted but he's still a blue chip. #1 overall pick in the draft, 4 time All-Star who is 25. That's pretty blue chip.  Thanks for playing, please try again.

6. Our bench is far more athletic and has far more potential than last year's collection. Thanks for playing, please try again.

It's a sad day only because all you know how to do is criticize without critically thinking first. Some of us are happy, others of us are in wait-and-see mode. It's pretty much only a handful of the normal Sad Sacks like yourself that are unhappy and that's because you'll never be happy. Thanks for playing, please try again.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I am assuming there is sarcasm in this post.  First of all there is nothing to indicate that IT would take less money.  He talked about getting paid all summer and the only thing he mentioned is that he would hold off on a contract extension in order for the Celtics to sign a max free agent.  I was emotionally invested in IT but I think you are overstating the long term impact that trading him will have on our organization.

I also believe that people are underestimating Danny Ainge's belief that Kyrie will elevate his game going forward.  If Kyrie posts 25 PPG on 50/45/90 and we make a strong push to the Finals then who will look back and criticize Danny?  I think trading IT was extremely difficult for Ainge to pull the trigger on.  If Brad gets Kyrie to buy in then I have no worries about our new core getting traded.  Danny knows what he's doing and considers all factors before blindly trading players.  Let's not forget that Ainge held on to KG and PP for as long as possible until  Brooklyn gave him an offer he couldn't refuse.  Prior to the Brooklyn trade there were people on this message board who criticized Ainge for being a hypocrite.  He made the comments about how he would have traded Bird or McHale and then waited to trade PP+KG.  These decisions aren't black and white.  We have a great organization from the top down.

I also don't understand what your concerns about the bench are?  We didn't have a great bench in the postseason this year.  We now add Tatum to a bench that still has Rozier and Smart.  The addition of Hayward also gives Brad the ability to have a go-to scorer on the court at all times.

But seriously, I love how people are acting like Boston did IT wrong when he GLADLY would've walked elsewhere for a bigger payday. Why should Boston be obligated to pay big money to an aging, undersized, and injured point guard who wouldn't have reciprocated that loyalty?

To be quite honest from what I'm reading and hearing the Cavs look foolish not the Celtics. They  created all this drama for a 2nd round pick. If anything no one will want to deal with them. Good luck when Bron leaves, IT leaves and the Nets pick is the 6th or 7th pick.

I think Ainge now has the foundation to land FAs and Davis if he needs too.

Look, IT got plenty of advice and decided not to have surgery so he could play. He showed great heart and he should be commended for that. However, he made those decisions and is now on a team with a chance to win a title. He wasn't sent to the Nets or Kings. So please let's stop feeling sorry for IT.

We upgraded our talent. A year ago everyone would've taken this trade and not looked back.

Brutal original post. I choose to view the world through an optimistic lens. In my eyes, the Celtics just loaded up on talent in the last 2 years. By adding Kyrie, Hayward, Horford, Tatum, and Brown, the Celtics are lined up to compete now and in the future.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Wow where to start?! I wish I had more hands so I could give this post 4 thumbs down.

Kyrie won't extend? Ridiculous. This team just moved heaven and earth to take Kyrie up on his offer to the league that any team that trades for him will be getting a bona fide superstar. You can say we did Isaiah wrong but we did so by empowering Kyrie in an environment and under a coach where he can thrive and he will remember that.

Hayward could get traded? Hogwash. So because we choose not extend IT to the max suddenly Danny will trade anyone? Danny passed on Butler and a Geroge rental to hand the keys to Gordon Hayward. Ainge is essentially challenging Stevens to win with elite talent while also giving Stevens his greatest pupil to help him along for the ride. Hayward is here to stay.

Horford could get traded? Well okay I'll give you that one. It is definitely possible that if we were to assemble one of the most well constructed and talented cores of all time (KI, GH, AD) Horford could be moved to make room for an MVP candidate. I don't see how anyone, including Al, could argue that if you have a shot at Anthony Davis -the final piece to a potential dynasty- a 32+ year old Al Horford couldn't be viewed as untouchable.

The rookies don't feel safe? Bologna. They were both just protected and chosen over the vaunted 2018 Brooklyn pick. Tatum was chosen over the consensus number 1 2017 pick. Bradley being traded opens up time for Jaylen. Crowder being traded opens up opportunity for Tatum. Our rookies shouldn't feel scared they should feel empowered.

Gave up a blue chip pick? Perhaps. But we did so for a borderline top 15-20 player and if Brooklyn makes a leap this year that pick is a red chip at best.

No bench? Whaddahyou nuts? How is some combination of Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, Jayson Tatum, Marcus Morris, Aaron Baynes, Daniel Theis, Semi Ojelie, Gershon Yabuselle, Thomas Robinson(?) not a bench? This was really the point were I question if your just trolling because our bench is a legitimate mob compared to all of our non GS competition.

2 second round exits or 7 to 10 years of contention? Who knows what the future holds but if we are to listen to The ReaLPuba all we can expect is fire and brimstone. You'll have to excuse me for showing just a bit more optimism.

'Edit' Looks like I got all worked up by a troll, that bait can sure be tasty! ;D

... I would!  If the Celtics traded for me when I was a backup, helped me to develop, and gave me the playing time to showcase my skills so that I could potentially increase my salary by 7 times in my next contract, then I'd love to play for an organization like that!!  And if they traded me, I'd only hope that they would trade me to a contender.

This is the key point right? He's in a great situation for himself still, there's a good chance they resign him even if Lebron leaves. A LeBron team has made the last 7 or so finals so you'd think he'd be ok moving to that team. His game is going to be even more in the spotlight this year.

He could have gone to Denver or even back to Phoenix if they missed out on Kyrie, then he really would have been in a bad place.

Ainge is a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline., but he always has been.  And he was able to sign Hayward and Horford.  Oh wait, that was 95% because of IT, who he then took a dump on.

I wish there was a way to calculate the difference in CB site traffic before and during IT's tenure.  I'd guess there would be a 30%+ difference.

We traded him to a contender.    And picked up a 4 time All Star, NBA Champion, All Star MVP, Gold Medalist........Plus now Boston has a healthy opening day All Star point Guard.     I think you are over reacting.   Looks like our GM made the team better to start the season and took doubt out of the equation.
