Including an additional first rounder at this point is far and away worth the hassle and backlash that reneging this trade would do to the Celtics.
As tempting as it is to get the Nets pick back it's going to be really bad for the franchise if this doesn't go through.
I dont understand...
Why would it make us look back. Everyone knew about IT's hip injury. The Cavs are probably just trying to squeeze out some more off of us by doing this. We already overpaid, no need to add more. Stand firm and call their bluff.
I think he's speaking more from an internal standpoint. Sure, we can bring back IT and Crowder and maybe it'll all be fine, but you're not regaining that chemistry. Look at how things played out with Ray Allen. You can't unring that bell.
You can unring the bell with IT.  If the Celtics really feel that the Cavs are overstating things, they make a big deal of how he's going to have a chance to show the Cavs how wrong they were in the playoffs, and how you expect he'll play most of the season.  If he lives up to those declarations, he'll have a chance to get his big deal next summer, and if the Celtics offer the most (and include a trade kicker), he'll sign.  And that's not a change from before the Tuesday -- IT is taking the highest offer from whomever offers it.  If he's truly not healthy, unringjng the bell is largely moot anyway.
With Crowder, maybe it's more difficult, but he's super easy to trade with his contract, so if it comes to it, you find another deal that fills a need.
Zizic is too much of a rookie to take it personally, and if he does, oh well.
