I really, genuinely believe IT needs surgery and he should've gotten the procedure done as quickly as possible once he was ruled out of the playoffs. I feel like the Cavs examined him and determined he needs surgery as opposed to rest and that's where the issue is.

Does anyone know the timetable for when the Cavs have to make a decision?

To me, it seems like IT would have to be significantly worse than the C's doctors thought in order for this report to be legit - like losing a month of the season to rehab versus a whole season to surgery. That seems unlikely that the two sides could have such disparate medical opinions.

That's why I'm leaning more towards this being a ploy to get more. Or at least it could be them trying to offload Shump in the deal, too.

I just saw on sports center Woj reports the two teams will have a phone call later today. Wow anybody think because of Dan Gilbert and LBJ this has a chance to fall through quickly?

Bridges have been burned...I can't picture IT or Kyrie returning to their respective teams, and acting like everything is just fine.

It would be much better for the Cav's because Irving is still going to be traded anyway. The Cavs just begin listening to offers again.

But for the Celtic...this is conformation that the hip of IT is serious and will linger long term. The Celtics would be stuck with an asset that has little trade value, and is regarded league wide as damaged goods.

Even of the Cavs ask for more from the Celtics, its a signal that IT was a LONG way from playing again, or ever being the IT of 2017.

If this deal is canceled, it would be a disaster. I don't want to even think about it.

The Cavs were looking at making one last run.

Which means they won't want Bender.

Eh, if they get Bledsoe too Bender serves a similar role as Zizic, just with a higher ceiling.  No Crowder's the bigger loss in shifting between those packages. Plus Kyrie now directly working against the pick they'd get.

100 percent correct. If they continue the rest route....this is going to linger all season. He won't be near 100 percent. That means more Larkin or Rozier playing and starting. Not good for Boston.

Can't trade him because he is a FA and damaged. Other option is surgery and that means he is done until Feb or March.  Boston is no better than a 4 seed in the east if he is out that long.

And then next year you have to address getting a PG. Rozier is not a starter in this league.

Thomas returning to Boston is a huge problem. As is Crowder, who does not like being there anyway.

Celtics and Cavs set to talk today. Cleveland brass concerned Isaiah might miss significant time this season following physical.

I can't imagine this trade gets rescinded, but if, and that is a big if, Thomas is really far more injured then led to believe then I fully expect Cleveland to get something else out of the trade.  maybe Boston's 2018 1st or it becomes the better of the BKN/LAL pick or something like that.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

As if the Cavs didn't know he'd miss significant time. Puh-lease. Call their bluff. Even with Isaiah missing the whole year and being just contract filler, our deal is still better than anything else they'll be offered.

One thing: If this trade isn't rescinded, will those who gave it a bad grade for us feel obliged to re-grade it an entire letter or two upwards? Glimpsing the abyss of it being rescinded and having zero healthy star PGs this year should change a lot of minds.

Sources: Cleveland's evaluation/conversation on status of Irving/Thomas deal have remained internal. So far, team hasn't re-engaged Boston.

I wonder if the Cavs are looking for a third team to get in on the deal. Some one that they can bundle up with Shumpert with. Both Bledsoe and Boogie have been linked. Bos would have to agree with sending the pick to one of those teams.

Makes sense for the Suns, they get a hurt player, a crappy player, which helps the tank, and a high pick.

It would be dumb if the Cavs backed out, they knew what they were getting into when the trade was accepted. Pretty much it was Irving for the NEts pick, and IT and Crowder were the matching salaries.
