My only concern now is that IT has lost major negotiating leverage and will get a deal much less than a max, and we threw away Crowder and possibly a top-5 draft pick in 2018 just to not pay him.

Kyrie is also 25.  Have to keep that in mind.  They're going to extend him for less than IT.
The top pick next year was going to be 19 or 20

Get me a list of the last 30 players that went 1,2 or 3 in the draft the last 10 years

And then tell me if banking on draft picks is smart

So what does Hayward think about all of this?

On one hand, you have to think he likes it, because we're now probably a better all-around team, while also getting significantly younger.

On the other hand, this is a significant change that came right after he signed. I wonder how much he knew about this possibility of trading IT.

Hayward came here to be the star.  There was never any guarantee IT would be here beyond next year.

This was part of the reason I felt IT was safe.  He has been so front and center on recruiting and everything.

Two things:

1) The ceiling for the team over the next 5 years, assuming we re-sign Kyrie, just got higher.

The opposite is true.  The ceiling just got lower.

Not even close to true. Kyrie can actually play both sides of the ball (see the 2016 playoffs -
even if he doesn't always do that), and he doesn't present an easy mismatch target against literally every team in the league (think the Wizards series when IT was absolutely abused by whoever he was guarding).

Kyrie is also every bit as good of an offensive player as IT, if not better. He's also significantly younger.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

You gotta off set that by looking at the list against team cancers like Kyrie Irving

The two people most likely upset about this trade...... (Though Danny put them in a situation where they could make the finals ) ....are IT4 and Crowder

Crowder because he was dangled like a fish all offseason....then Danny came out a few days, stating how Crowder and Hayward could co exist...now this

IT4 - we will never know if he was going to get max from the Celts.  And he was part of the recruiting team that brought Hayward over....now this.

I feel like we just stepped into an alternate reality where Danny haters are in love with him and danny supporters are now in hate!  8)

I will judge this trade after I have a a few drinks of red tonight. For now, a bit shocked.

Another thought, maybe ainge was not going to give IT the max, so trade him now and get a younger star...

I guess.  :P
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

These guys can be mad all they want but IT had it in his hands to sit down with Cs management and discuss an extension and (rightly) he said he would go to free agency and cop the brinks trunk.

Kyrie is going to get paid less after extended and can be much better on defense if he commits.  We can still get a top pick via the Lakers.  Things will be okay.

I perfectly understand KI for IT, but no way should we offer up the BRK pick unprotected. If that pick turns into Bagley or Porter Ainge may have made a mistake we'll pay for a generation.

We got crushed in this trade if there's no protection.
