I like it.  :)

Two things:

1) The ceiling for the team over the next 5 years, assuming we re-sign Kyrie, just got higher.

The opposite is true.  The ceiling just got lower.

Not sure where the certainty comes from this is a certain top 5 pick.

I like the deal. It's good for both clubs. Kyrie's game will expand under Stevens and Cleveland gets a new face of the franchise.

What an odd turn of events, to be defending Danny Ainge. LOL.

He got this one right.

Is that some sort of next-level sarcasm?

I guess Danny REALLY didn't want to bring out the brinks trucks, huh? Kyrie's deal for the next two years will be better value than what Isaiah gets. Can't argue with that. I hate that we included the Brooklyn pick, though, given how little teams gave up for Butler and George. I also don't like that we made it easier for them to retain Lebron.

Given how much time Crowder spent picking fights with fans on twitter while he was still a Celtic, he'll be thrilled to play the villain in CLE... but it's gonna be really tough to see The Little Guy in a Cavs uniform.

I think due to his size the defensive potential for Kyrie is higher, plus if he becomes more of a team-oriented player under Stevens, he could be better.

Still not seeing any confirmation of the Brooklyn pick protections (if any). I can't imagine Danny would do this without at the very least a top-1 protection.

I'm actually okay if its not. Yes, it sucks to give it up but by all accounts Cleveland was looking at the future. They need 1 future asset, a 29 year old IT on an expiring deal and a role player in Jae wasn't it. Add in to that Brooklyn actually did improve this off-season and the East got weaker with Chicago and Indy taking steps back, it's a palatable deal.

That has to be the case.  He could have traded that pick for Jimmy Butler!

A different take for me is that I feel better maxing Kyrie over IT despite how much I loved seeing IT play for us. I feel bad thinking that but it is true. If you could max one for five years, who would it be? Actually, it is like we just got Kyrie for 7. Big bet Mr. Ainge...fingers crossed. Now if brooklyn turns i to 1 and another once in a generation player ends up in Cleveland......Barf!!

Hardly. I like this trade. I don't believe the Brooklyn pick will be top 5, Zizic is a stiff, and Crowder is a role player. Hate to see Thomas go, but this is a great move for the future ceiling of this team.

Ainge got this one right.

Two things:

1) The ceiling for the team over the next 5 years, assuming we re-sign Kyrie, just got higher.

2) The team just got a lot less likable in the short term.  Perhaps Kyrie will end up a beloved Celtic.

Isaiah Thomas is one of my favorite players whose been in green since I became a fan.  Period.

I'm not sure where this vitriol for Kyrie is coming from. Sure, he gets iso-heavy at times, but he's proven to be unstoppable at times in three separate playoffs now. And he can actually play D when asked, which is more than can be said about IT.

He was also easily the most likable player on that Cleveland team.

Now, that doesn't mean I think this is a great trade. It's a pretty substantial overpay if there's no protection on the Brooklyn pick. However, I do think we're probably a better team for a longer overall time with Kyrie than we were with IT.

All that we can know for sure is this - OPENING NIGHT IS GOING TO BE LIT! Hopefully IT is still recovering from his hip injury at that time, because I could see him going off in a revenge game against us. I can also see Kyrie going for 50 that night in his first night back in the Q lol

Kyrie is also 25.  Have to keep that in mind.  They're going to extend him for less than IT.

So what does Hayward think about all of this?

On one hand, you have to think he likes it, because we're now probably a better all-around team, while also getting significantly younger.

On the other hand, this is a significant change that came right after he signed. I wonder how much he knew about this possibility of trading IT.

The top pick next year was going to be 19 or 20

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Danny is banling on Brookyln being good or Jayson Tatum being special, otherwise, it didnt make sense to include the Brooklyn pick.

I feel sick. I want Kyrie, but not for that much...
