This is a diagnosis for him - he's learning what his weaknesses are.  If his work ethic is anything like we've been told, he'll absorb this information and come back a better player because of it.

Like maybe dribbling the ball up the court and playing point and shooting free throws when the game is on the line?   I am not buying it.   True, it is summer league but that was pretty bone head of him.   Or the time out when he was yelling "let's play Celtics basketball" to his team mates when he was not playing Celtics basketball.

He is young, I think the sky is the limit for him.   But he played poorly tonight and showed a poor grasp of his limitations.

They hae been playing him out of his comfort zone. Playing point is designed on purpose, both him and Nader had shot at the point because the staff want to assess them more as point forwards. We already know Jaylen's strengths, so to run a proper diagnosis you make him use parts of the game that he doesnt utilize much.

Find his weaknesses and strengthen them so he can run more out of the 2 in the NBA and feel more natural doing so. Makes sense. Summer League is the perfect place for him to work them kinks out.

We should have got hield. 15ppg, shoots 42% from 3, 4 rpg
No we shouldn't have. Hield is considerably older, has a lower ceiling, and isn't a very good defender.

If JB had played 4 years at college I'm sure he'd be able to put up empty numbers on garbage teams like Sacramento.

Bingo. Jaylen Brown, in my opinion, had the best chance in the 2016 draft to become the next Jimmy Butler type player. He is super young. It's going to be hard to criticize his game for a couple of years. His value will sky rocket IF he develops a handle AND a shot.

At this point, he's still a project. But guys, let's not forget his 29 pts and 13 rebs in the first game vs Philly. Hard to live and die on these games.

I like the dynamic that Danny set up with Tatum. Now there's no lack of motivation for Jaylen to improve. That's why he's playing in the summer league. Smart move on Brown's part.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Are people forgetting that Jaylen played a full season and the playoffs. Maybe he's hitting a little rookie wall. Is any other player playing summer league that even made the playoffs let alone The Eastern Conference Finals?

Jaylen needs to play with better players ....  If you expect him to be the man , he tries too much. Too wild

Right now anyways

agree.....out of control alot, wild , trying to do too much , needs to work on doing the little things FIRST , then let the scoring come to him.   He is trying too hard to be Lebron too soon.  Needs to slow down and make every play count.
Yep, he's much better when he has the mindset of keeping things simple... such as in the actual NBA when there are better players.   He is best taking open jumpers and driving all the way to the rim.  Tonight he did a lot of shake and bake moves only to take a long jumper.  Obviously he's not a good shooter of under duress and on the move.  He shouldn't be trying to be Stephen Curry on offense.  For supposedly such a smart guy he played pretty dumb and beyond his skills today.

You nailed it. The half court violation made me throw my beer. So stupid. My 6th grade AAU team knows better than to make a move right at half court. You do it three feet before or after half court. Never right on it.  He's a nice kid but basketball dumb.

Jaylen will be FINE.

He showed me enough flashes in the PLAYOFFS last season to prove to me his worth.

Him, Jayson and The Haymaker will be causing some matchup problems when Coach Stevens deploys such a lineup.

Exactly. You cannot do this with the regular team because there's only so much room for experimentation because it might cost us some losses, he is too good for thee D-League and we need his contributions in the main team. Training camp is where you work on each player's place and role with the team. The Summer League is the only real place to do this without risk.

Relax. It's summer league. They're pushing his comfort zone. There's no way he will ever be ready to be a playmaker if they don't push his comfort level in game like situations. He's not ready yet but I do think he's better than last season. He has several NBA qualities and will get plenty of burn this season. No reason to worry.
This. He not out there to impress the fans on CelticsBlog. He's using it as a glorified practice. The more mistakes he makes the more learning he identifies.

He won't be a ball handler on our team this year, he'll be a spot up shooter and slasher. On those two counts he's doing fine.

We're subconsciously comparing Jaylen to Tatum now. So one has a good summer league, and now the other one is terrible.

Stop making hot takes on summer league games.

how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck was chris bosh?

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
He'll be fine. Summer league is awful for guys who need spacing. He's desperately trying to prove he's better than everyone out there and he's overthinking things.

Once he gets to training camp and realizes that we moved Bradley so he couls get more minutes he'll calm down.

Just wants to prove he's great. He's a baby yet.

Was excellent for us as a rookie. Only going to keep getting better.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
