Did anyone ever find out what that text message said?  I don't want to make excuses for him, but my opinion of the incident has always been incomplete without that info

If I punch someone in the face for texting my mother inappropriately does that make me a bad guy?

This is my idea of what happened from what very very little I have gathered.
Yes, solving issues by punching someone in the face typically makes you a less than desirable individual in my book.

Smart did it in game for a guy who yelled racist garbage at him and it's pretty clear he's not a "knucklehead."  If this guy texted racist or sexist things to Morris' mother (which we don't know), I agree it's out of line but I'm not writing off his whole character over it

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

This has been pending for awhile. It could be very bad news, but charges like this have a way of resolving when professional athletes are involved.
I thought the Celtics passed on some deals last season because they had a great locker room and didn't want to add bad influence. So much about that glorious idea.

That was just Celtics Fan's means of trying to justify / excuse their god of basketball operations Danny Ainge for missing out on a potential franchise altering trade.

Since Ainge is a god and can do no wrong, and we all trust in Danny, it;'s not possible that he just screwed up and missed out on a deal that could have gotten us a franchise player.  No, no, it was intentional - attitude concerns man!

That's my book too.  But having known many people who've engaged in violence, they (and circumstances)  are not all the same.  Some have character flaws, some are impulsive but learning, some make mistakes which sometimes are promoted through different culture/values than my own.   I definitely don't like the decision he made, but I can't say that I now know enough yet to judge his character.

Marcus Morris will be in court soon and is charged with felony and aggravated assault from '15. Court date is on August 21.

I know people will joke about "toughness" and how we "finally have it", but could this be a serious issue going forward?  :o

I live on Phoenix and the Morris twins are pariahs here. Truly hated. But they were the best players on the team until Booker came.

I think they'll be fine. The court date is all but over. Who knows, the Celtics might just waive him anyways...

Should've traded for Cousins back in February, huh Ainge.

Adding a headcase big into our team now?
Okay, do people seriously not see the difference?  Cousins is certifiably insane and is a team killer when he's supposed to be a leader.  You cannot have your best player be a nut job.

Morris may or may not be insane (can't say I've paid much attention to him) but even if he is as unstable as Cousins (which he very likely isn't), that is more acceptable if we're talking role player.
 But in the end, thug off the court does not equal lunatic on the court.

Not to excuse whatever he might have done of course.

I pretty much agree with all you said.  But, if it turns out he is guilty and convicted then are we happy with this trade?  Maybe Roy can tell us if a conviction would mean jail time or maybe just probation?  I have no idea.

he is no worse than several other players ALL the top contenders use to rebound and enforce .

Tell them to get rid of their thugs , put their guns down first......

everybody can't be saints ......

Since when has the NBA or Celtics or any team been a totally "G" rated event .

i don't mind tuff guys , as long as they listen to the coach

Without tuff guys we won't win.  Every team that dominates has 2-3 on their team .

Did Smart get with 4 other guys and beat the crap out of the fan on the floor?  I don't think so, he went into the stands to try and shut him up, he wasn't charged with assault.  These two things are NOT any where near the same.

We needed to make a Trade to get Financially right so we could get GH (and Keep As much of our guts as possible I.E Smart, Rozier)

That is more important than anything Morris Can or Cant do for this team..   and his contract is super cheap so it's really whatever with him.

Why are they hated in Phoenix? The Suns front office lied to them.

There are a lot of ways sentencing could be handled in that instance:

* It could be dropped down to a misdemeanor via plea, resulting in a likely fine (and perhaps a financial settlement in the pending civil suit);

* Morris could be sentenced to probation, with jail time "suspended" if he complies with his probation conditions;

* He could be sent to jail or prison, ranging from days to years;

* He could enter into a deferment, under which charges (and potential sentences) would be dropped or reduced if he meets certain conditions.
