I actually like what Ainge has done in the offseason with bigs. He's got one starting spot locked up with Horford, and knows that Stevens's closing lineup will probably have only one big rather than two. So he's signed a couple guys on short years and money -- Theis and Baynes -- to go along with young guys -- Zizic and Yabusele -- and created a competition. Good plan, especially if you can't afford to pay big money for less-than-premium position while staying under the cap.

In order, yes, no, yes and yes.

I'm hoping Boris Diaw gets bought out this weekend and signs with us...he played with Hayward last season.

I think he did already and yes I'd love him.  He actually defends Lebron really well.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Eine offizielle Meldung gibt es noch nicht. Der Deutsche Basketball Bund (DBB) hat nun aber in einer Pressemitteilung bestätigt: Daniel Theis spielt ab sofort für den NBA-Klub Boston Celtics.

He reminds me of Jonas before the injury with a lesser shot.

He looks athletic, aggressive in what I have seen.  It will be a new ball game in the NBA.

What is happening

The German Basketball Federation (equivalent of USA Basketball) confirmed in a press release that Theis now plays for the Boston Celtics (loose translation).

So what's the status of Theis and Yabusele?  Will either be on the team this season?

Both will.
What are the parameters around this?   Just trying to figure out roster spots.  Do they both have guaranteed salaries for 2017-2018?  Recall that the Celtics paid Ben Bentil $250K and he didn't even make the team.

Theis has been rumored to be fully guaranteed this year at the rookie minimum, and partially guaranteed next year.  Assuming Yabsusele signs, he will be guaranteed about $5 million over his first two years, and is thus a lock for the roster.  The only question (although a significant one) surrounding Yabusele is why hasn't he signed yet?  His cap hold and contract take up the same amount of space, so the delay only makes sense if there is some chance, even a small one, that he will not be on the roster.  Every report has said otherwise in the last month, but Tatum and Zizic have signed their deals already.

Theis is signing with a minimum salary exception, and so doesn't take up cap space while waiting to sign, and the team can go over the cap to sign him, so his delay makes sense.

If Ainge is counting on 2 Euro's to play significant minutes he is a fool.
End of the bench players at best..

Yeah Euros all suck. Saric, Vucevic, Fournier, Dragic, Schroder, Porzingis, Jokic, Gasol, Gobert, Antetokounmpo, Nurkic, Hernangómez, Mirotic, Bogdanovic, Bogdanovic, etc all suck. Now who is the fool?

Did I say all Euro's suk?

Re read the post genius.

No chance either of these players have an impact this season. Bench depth at best.
My point was, none of these Celtic euros were high on any teams list. Last thing boston needs is more developmental type players..

Theis is a 25 year old veteran professional basketball player.  He's not here for 'development'.

If he's good enough, he's going to get used.  If he's not good enough, he's going to be gone.  He's not here to develop into anything but what he is.

Personally, I think he's going to be very useful.   He checks off a lot of check boxes for what Brad Stevens seems to want in a basketball player.

He may not pan out and if so we aren't out much - just a minimum contract.

Pretending you already know that he's nothing more than "end of bench" seems silly.   Are you racing to be first with a negative hot take?   We lose nothing by waiting to see how he actually plays at the NBA level.

At any rate, you probably should get used to seeing international players.  Since right now we look to have 4 of our 15 roster spots filled by internationals:  Baynes (AUS/NZ), Zizic (Croatia), Theis (Germany) and Yabusele (France).    All in the front court, too.

There is a chance, still, that Yabusele may get stashed for another year, if Danny pulls off another transaction to bring in someone else for that last slot.   Someone mentioned Boris Diaw ... (France).

NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.
