Well if he could be our German version of Gortat I'd be more than pleased with that result.

Defensive monster:

But can he play at the NBA level?

Throw him into the practices and see how he does as a rim protector.  :)

We already signed him on the cheap, hopefully our international scouting pays off!

His first year is supposed to be guaranteed.
Can he play power forward?

He is a power forward or undersized center who blocks shots and can hit the Three. Defensive player of the year in Europe.

No way. He wasn't even in one of the best five leagues in the continent.

1. Spain's Liga ACB
2. Turkish Basketball Super League
3. Russia's VTB United League
4. Germany's Basketball Bundesliga
5. Italy's Lega Basket Serie A

That is how most people rank them who watch European basketball. So he was in top 5 league and on by far the best team in the league in Brose Bamberg. Given the German talent coming up, and the growing professionalism in the German league, it might well overtake Spain one day as the top league in Europe. Especially as more American players are choosing to sign with German clubs over Spanish, Turkish, and Russian.

I see Zizic as closer to Gortat.  If Theis can hit the 3, he is not like Gortat at all, which is good.  Big men without an outside shot are going out of style in this league.

here in Europe he's very OK player. the only question (if he wont be cut) - if he s able to defend some wings on NBA level? if yes - he'll be capable

Personally feel this guy will be getting more minutes than Zizic, who looked slow and unskilled in summer debut.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
From his highlights, he looks like he should be able to contribute...a lot more than Zizic who is currently way too young and slow.

All hope should not be lost with Zizic, but the development team has their hands full with him. Theis may not be a world-beater, but should be able to slide right into the back of the rotation (if no other bigs are siged).

Realistically, if he can replace Jonas Jerebko at a much lower salary point, it's a big win. Seems very likely he'll be tougher; just don't know if he'll also be slower. Has he got the foot speed to play on the perimeter against stretch 4s in the NBA and defend p and r?

This guy Theis has a more aggressive game than Jerebko both as a rebounder and shot blocker.  Quicker to the hoop. JJ was soooo slow driving to the hoop.

If Ainge is counting on 2 Euro's to play significant minutes he is a fool.
End of the bench players at best..

I don't think he's counting on much from Zizic this year, but I do think he expects Theis to contribute. He gave him a two year fully guaranteed deal in the midst of clearing cap space and not taking on contracts, all while drafting multiple players again, in order to pursue Hayward, so I am sure he expects him to be a contributor.

You're right. Because there's never been a Euro who played well in the NBA.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Yeah, the Spurs approach sure was a failure.
