TP for the idea, good recovery thought, now that George is out of CLE picture.

Avery and Crowder for Love would be an upgrade, would we include a sign and trade of Kelly, or does that not work?

I am also wondering how that negatively impacts us defensively with a starting line up including Love and Hayward, neither of whom is known as great switch defenders.

Love's rebounding help would be a huge plus though. He would work well in our ball movement offense too.

That's too much for Carmelo (Knicks get too much).   I also think it's too much to give
up for Love.

It's much more than Paul George cost and much more than Jimmy Butler cost.  Ainge wouldn't do that.
He might do it if it's just the players...certainly no picks....

though Cleveland would need one pick from someone to change from Love to to Melo...

If Indiana wasn't willing to negotiate a fair trade to send Paul George to a fellow Eastern Conference team, then I doubt there is enough motivation on the Cavaliers part to trade Love to us, even to get Anthony on their team.

Unless we give up a prized pick, I just can't see it happening.

Major difference being we get 3 years of service from Love guaranteed, George would have been one, and Butler two.. I think you have to give up more if you are getting a player for a longer duration.

That being said, although this clearly makes Cleveland stronger this year you have to 'help' them. Cleveland is going to blow up next season, so essentially we're saying Lebron you can lose to the Warriors this season, and we'll lose to them for the two seasons after that.

No. Knicks make out like bandits in this trade. Melo is washed up. He had a negative BPM last year and he's owed $54M + 15% trade kicker the next two years. Oh and the second year is a player option, so if he's somehow good in Cleveland then he can just opt out after 1 year and demand another big contract--which Cleveland will have to give him because otherwise Lebron will walk!

Knicks should be the ones sending picks out. A more balanced trade would be something like:

Love to team with cap space
Melo + Knicks 2018 1st + (top 5 protected) + another decent asset from the team that gets Love to Cleveland
Nothing to Knicks

For the Cavs this makes sense if it will convince Lebron to stay in 2018, but it's clearly a downgrade basketball-wise. For the Knicks it makes basketball sense but not business sense, as Melo still sells tickets despite being bad. The third team is likely to be the winner in this trade if they can resurrect Love's career.

Resurrect his career? Did you watch CLE v. Celtics this past play-offs?

People crap on Love but Anthony will absolutely be a downgrade for the Cavs.

Who knows what GM Lebron thinks though.

Love it. I thought we should have gotten in on it if PG13 was going to Cleveland.

Of course, we might be 17 wins worse:

Seriously, is Love better than Galo, Gay, or whoever else is available?  Probably, Yeah.

How the hell are we 17 wins worse with the addition of K. Love??

Hate to lose AB and Jae, but still..

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
So the Knicks are close enough to being done with Carmelo that they are supposedly ready to buy him out, but are somehow getting AB, Crowder, and two firsts back for him? If we missed out on Hayward and traded for Carmelo straight up (no Love), that package would be seen as a major overpay.

Knicks can take Crowder (since he will need to go anyway) and like the LAC 1st, but I agree that the Cavs are going to need more incentive to make this deal. Another team may need to be involved to make this work, unless the Knicks want JR Smith back - then Cleveland can get AB.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

It's about matching salary. We have to send out money to take on kevin Love. Who really cares what the Knicks get?
Bradley and Crowder have to go if Love is coming in.
The Knicks could take JR and some other salary filler and some crap picks like 18' Boston+ Clippers pick.
Ultimately Boston and Cleveland need to work together with NY so all sides believe they are winnimg in their own way.

We get Love locked up, Cavs get Carmelo and Crowder/Bradley for a year of contending, Knicks get some picks for giving up Melo and helping both sides out.

Going from Melo to Love is a downgrade for the Cavs. If the Cavs were willing to give up Love for just Melo a deal would already be done by now.

Now, if Bradley or Crowder are going with Melo to Cleveland, the deal makes a lot more sense.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I do like this but I am still not crazy about letting AB go. I wish there was an alternative which doesn't include Smart, JB or JT.

With Cleveland looking to shed Shumpert perhaps we should say that they would not want to take on salary in this trade.

Melo will already be more than Love so I any additional pieces are likely to be someone like Rozier or Nader level salaries.

I don't see Bradley being involved. Ainge hasn't seemed to be open to moving him for anyone so far and i doubt that would change for Love
