Is there a rim protector out there who can pass the ball, screen properly and hit the open jump shot out there?

Marc Gasol just called:-)

If Gordon goes elsewhere, would MEM match an offer of 20-25 million for RFA JyMachel Green?

Seriously? That would really help team chemistry if you pay an unproven commodity like J Green 20-25 million and make him your 2nd highest paid player on your team.

I not big on using the "rim protector" cliche but Amir Johnson represented our least talented starting position and the bench behind him was not good either.  We just need a talented front court player to balance things out on the floor.  Ideally, that big could defend and rebound along with do something with the ball.  I don't mind an Amir-type acquisition (older player, short contract) but that slot needs an upgrade more than any other slot right now.

That is why I was hoping for Griffin.  Oh well.

Anthony Davis would be a good fit. :D

Seriously, there's just not that many guys out there that fit the rim protector/rebounder description who aren't going to kill you offensively or be able to defend the perimeter when other teams go small.  I was hoping we might end up with a mid first pick and get a guy like Jarrett Allen to develop.

Who's out there that you'd like to pick up?  Ibaka? Nene?

Theis reportedly has 7'3" wingspan. Good shot blocker. Could play a lot of back up 4/5. Like the signing.

Isn't this why we drafted just last year and signed Ante Zizic this year ?

Theis, Zizic, Yabasule, Ojeleye. Best 3 out of 4.

Ever heard of Bill Russell? Most of his points were dunks. Never shot the ball. Couldn't shoot FTs.

He got the ball to start the fast break. And he protected the paint.

They need a rebounder and defender. Scoring is irrelevant. If he could score, too, he would be too expensive.

Maybe Zizic and that German guy can rebound and defend. We'll see.

Imagine what our potential BKN top 5 pick(s) in 2018 could yield? Both the Nets and the Lakers will stink this year, and so will the Kings in two years. Barring catastrophe with the ping pong balls, they look better than any other team going into the 2018 big man draft. We should be able to trade both picks for the #1, whether its Ayton or Porter. Effectively, Danny should be able to big the next best big man to couple with Horford and Zizic.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

According to Danny, it's not worth signing a rim protector/rebounder who kills our spacing.

“When you just add a rebounder, and he hurts your offense, it defeats the purpose. A rebounder will just be sitting on your bench. We have players that are more skilled, and we play around our strengths. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when we added Al Horford this year — and this is nothing to take away from Isaiah (Thomas) and Avery (Bradley), because they’re fantastic players — but I think that Al’s presence makes those guys all better. We have the floor spread and we have skilled bigs. Al is leading NBA centers in assists this year, and that’s the way that we play. First of all, we know that we don’t have a great rebounding team from a personnel standpoint, but we also don’t play a great rebounding style, in that we rely on our bigs to play out on the perimeter and make plays and make passes and open up the court up for our guards. It is a weakness. There are some guys out there that can rebound OK. I think there was one or two rebounders that I would say that were good rebounders that could help us rebounding. But we’re always trying to evaluate if they’re going to help our team overall.”

I've heard him making this argument multiple times.
He's only talking about a rebounder, not a rim protector, but the point is making is whoever we get has to be able to hit an outside shot.  IMO, that's doesn't HAVE TO be a 3-point shot but not sure what Stevens is thinking, much less Ainge.

Geez Cousins would have been so perfect...did NO re-sign him?
