the celtics have a perimeter defense that would be even better if they knew there was a stopper in the middle-the celtics identity is defense and a defensive big has not been addressed-why draft guards at end of draft

Totally agree Rollie!!  That being said, I think that comes in next year's draft.

Patience my friend:-)))

He is a RFA. Dallas is going to match everything that we offer him.

Well, I've been saying that for quite awhile now, but so far I get negative vibes from Ainge/Stevens. Though Danny has sounded ambivalent on the issue when he's talked about it. Perhaps a conflict with Stevens?

A lot of people are wrapped up in small ball, 3P shooting and spreading the floor. Well, that doesn't obviate the need for somebody to get the ball and defend the paint!

The old Russell era teams were better at small ball than the current group, but they also had a guy named Russell to get the ball and defend the paint.

That's why I'm not one to quickly dismiss a Jordan, though Noel might be acceptable as well.
I think it will be hard to pry him from Dallas, though he's a local kid from Everett.

I don't think this team can get better until it gets more toughness up front.

If Gordon goes elsewhere, would MEM match an offer of 20-25 million for RFA JyMachel Green?

I wonder about this all the time.  We pass on the best guard in the draft but we constantly draft them for no reason in later rounds. We need a big defender. Why is this still not addressed.   Has any media person ever asked DA this question?

According to Danny, it's not worth signing a rim protector/rebounder who kills our spacing.

“When you just add a rebounder, and he hurts your offense, it defeats the purpose. A rebounder will just be sitting on your bench. We have players that are more skilled, and we play around our strengths. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when we added Al Horford this year — and this is nothing to take away from Isaiah (Thomas) and Avery (Bradley), because they’re fantastic players — but I think that Al’s presence makes those guys all better. We have the floor spread and we have skilled bigs. Al is leading NBA centers in assists this year, and that’s the way that we play. First of all, we know that we don’t have a great rebounding team from a personnel standpoint, but we also don’t play a great rebounding style, in that we rely on our bigs to play out on the perimeter and make plays and make passes and open up the court up for our guards. It is a weakness. There are some guys out there that can rebound OK. I think there was one or two rebounders that I would say that were good rebounders that could help us rebounding. But we’re always trying to evaluate if they’re going to help our team overall.”

I've heard him making this argument multiple times.

Team is on record saying they aren't going to get a rim protector IF it hurts their offense (so no on a guy like Noel).  Like it or not, that's the philosophy.

Some of you seem to think "rebounder" and "rim protector" are synonyms.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I've mentioned this name and I will mention him again.

Andrew Bogut.

I get the injury concerns, but what I value about him is mentorship.

This is a guy who Draymond Green said he learned a lot from, said he "wouldn't be the defender he is" without Bogut teaching him a lot of things.

He could be a decent backup, but he could be an excellent mentor for Ante Zizic, and maybe Ayton/Bamba.

I got killed when I said I'd throw the room exception for him. I still think we should. That would be too good an offer to pass for Bogut.

Could not agree with you more. The Celtics offense is not going to be consistent enough to win a Championship until they get the type of player you are describing.  Particularly because you're never going to "out-pass/out-shoot/out skill player" Golden State or Cleveland from a personnel standpoint.  To beat them tou have to be able to create stops and turn their missed into your offense.

I think Ainge has tried to draft rebounding shotblockers but really struggled to identify the skillset that will translate to the NBA.
