Pacers asking teams for ideas on potential PG trades, per sources, as they have for a while. Ideally: 2 firsts+starter. Teams obv skittish.

So the asking price isn't all that high. 2019 Clippers and Jae Crowder seems like it would probably be the best they're going to get. Now, I'm generally not for trading for these second-tier stars, but that's a pretty reasonable price to pay.
2 picks and a starter for a rental who will leave at end of season?

Yep, if the two 1sts are the Clippers pick + one of our own and the starter is Crowder, why not. That's a fair deal for a rental. We get to try to win now for a year without giving up a premium asset and we get to try to convince George to stay.

I ain't giving up anything of value (starter, 1st rounders, young talent) for rental.

Paul George either commits long term to Boston prior to the trade or NO DEAL.

It's their asking price. They should obviously start all conversations asking for way more than they're going to get.

Sounds like wasted assets. PG has made his intentions pretty clear. He's playing out year and testing FA. Giving up 2 future firsts AND a starter for a guy that is not guaranteed to stay is silly. Just because the Celtics have a million picks it doesn't mean they can just throw them away. Only way I agree to do if he agrees to an extension.

Pretty much. I'm not sure how/why Crowder + 2 non-Brooklyn picks (maybe our own '18 pick + the Memphis pick with top 10 protection) would hurt us all that much. And of course, there's the chance where we convince him to stay and then it ends up as straight up theft.

Paul George is going to LA in 2018.

Ainge would be an idiot to trade even a penny for this guy w/o a long term extension.

I would not offer two first round picks, even if they aren't lottery potential picks for what could be a rental.

I'd be willing to gamble one, plus Jae Crowder, plus Demitrious Jackson. That's about it. No certainty Paul George stays, but that package absolutely doesn't hurt us unless we have a very bad 2018.

I'll leave that offer on the table until November.

Sense from teams talking to IND is that Pacers intend to move fast on a PG deal.

Then that means you're anti-rental as a general concept.

A year of a top 15-20 player for Jae Crowder and a middling first is a no-brainer. Even if George is booking it to LA in 2018, if we add him and Hayward, we could be looking at a Finals birth in 2018.

I honestly think George could be convinced to sign long term with the Cs. Have Pierce call him about how legacy means more to Boston than playing in their hometown of L.A.

I'm a huge fan of George, I would trade Crowder and a couple non lottery firsts even as a rental to try and convince him to stay. Even if he doesnt, Jaylen or Tatum will step in as a starting 3 the year after.

Danny really, really should take advantage of this. People are seriously undervaluing how good George is all because of all of this LA crap. This is the EXACT reason you accumulate so many assets like this - to take chances just like this one. He's a PERFECT fit here.

There are many in the national media who also think that it's unlikely that he goes to a non-playoff bound Lakers team after being on a contending team for a year.

The LA narrative just doesn't make sense. He's always said he wants to win. Why the hell would he go to LA after being on a contending team and be on the outside of hte playoffs in a West dominated by a historically good Golden State team??

Yeah if you could get PG for Crowder Celts 2018 and the Memphis pick you have to do that...
