  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Shows you how much the NBA has changed. I'm pretty sure that James Worthy and Kevin McHale were pretty excited to join contending teams and things turned out pretty well for them
Ya. Whatever happened to wanting to WIN?

Also, these agents need to realize that their clients will get plenty of national exposure playing deep into May. Even if they are only getting 20 minutes per game. X

Yeah, I went out last night in Ft. Lauderdale and people were raving about Rozier and Brown, even though neither has been especially impressive this season (both have had their moments, though). I don't think people would really know much about those guys if the Cs weren't one of the final 5 teams in the playoffs.

What the hell is the agent even talking about?  Are they going sit out the year or something. DA will draft whoever he wants to draft and they'll have to deal with it.  If the guy is that good, he'll force his way into the rotation.

My my, the new age stars are something else.  They're already picking colleges more on playing time more than anything else.  Now they want to do the same thing entering the NBA.

You'd think a guy would be happy to enter a winning situation.  But as it is, many guys aren't happy unless they're winning they're winning their way.  SMH.

to be honest don't think some agents/players care to even win...

winning to these agents/players is obtaining a large extension after their rookie contract

They would prefer their clients to go to bad teams so they can put up stats so they can get a big contract. They don't care about winning etc. It's all about the money. More money for their clients means more money for them. That's the job.

It makes sense.

Less playing means less opportunity for individual accolades  (Rookie of the Year, All Star, All-NBA, etc) and that directly impacts the type of contract they get down the line. Look at the way the CBA is structured. You have the Derrick Rose provision for post- rookie contracts, the designated player max. Playing time figures directly into that stuff.

At the end of the day, it's still a business. That's not just applicable to franchises when they decide to trade guys. The agents wouldn't be doing their jobs if they weren't trying to maximize their clients' income opportunities.

That's what I find pretty amusing about all of this.

Aren't rookie contracts 4 years long?

If you're player isn't confident enough about their abilities to gain enough playing time by year 4 to warrant a big extension?

If not, they're probably not any good anyways.

Can just see it now - the Celtics take Ball and his Dad starts publicly complaining about Brad giving him only 10 minutes a game the first month of the season.

Odds that this anonymous agent is Lavar Ball?

Yeah, but if I'm an agent I might still not want my guy competing needlessly with Yab or maybe Zizic or Horford.  Plus KO could come back

I have not been overly optimistic after watching, Yab, were I an agent I would not be too concerned. Antic, seems to have more drive, but I doubt either of these guys can dominate in the NBA anytime soon ( I hope I am wrong about that.)   I think no big man rookie could take Horford's position but Amir is another matter.  KO is another question, but he has a reputation for being both soft and dirty.  All of us here, know he can be inconsistent.

I think Agents don't want their guys to come here because they will have to earn playing time.   It has more to do with that than us being "too good" which is silly.   The playoffs have demonstrated two things, we need starting caliber four ( we have known this all year and the playoffs just made it more obvious) and we need scoring help.   Teams that good don't have that big of holes.   We are often greater than the sum of our parts, though and play good team basketball.

I suspect we will take a Fultz if available and deal for or sign a four.  If Ainge rolls it back with Conan the Destroyer (KO) and Amir and Jerebko, I for one will be disappointed.  I am also of the mindset that KO is not your future starting four.   He is too uneven in performance.

I could see us taking Jackson as a Small Ball four or Tatum as a Small Ball three moving Crowder to the four if we get the 3rd or 4th pick.  Ainge's bag of assets is getting smaller now.   A lot of what happens could depend on free agency, drafting Fultz and signing a Blake Griffin ( a lot of luck would have to happen) but whoa.

That's legit the first thing I thought to myself when I read the quote.

Sounds like stuff that would come out of Lavar Ball's mouth. I wonder if that is who this mystery agent is.

Anyone who thinks we are loaded at four, is delusional and needs on psych meds.

Al Horford would disagree.

I believe it is more about attending private workouts and sharing information.  A lot of scouting occurs between now and the NBA draft, and I think the Cs value the private workouts more than most teams.

An agent can very easily say "no" to that.

Zizic will not dominate, but I TRULY BELIEVE that he can give us 8 and 8 and 1.5 blocks NEXT YEAR and eventually be a consistently 14 and 11 guy with 2 blocks!!!

Runner-up of Euro Rising Star to Doncic is legit!!!!!!!!!

Any player who's drafted top 3 and doesn't have the confidence that he can break into a regular rotation in year 1, and be starting in year 2, doesn't deserve to get drafted in the top 3. Especially in a "loaded" draft. It doesn't matter who drafts you and who is infront of you on the depth chart.

Not to mention we have exactly one All-NBA player, who could easily start next to anyone projected in the top 4. You think Lonzo Ball wouldn't thrive having one of the best shooters in the league next to him? Or that Fultz couldn't be shifted onto SGs on defense?

The whole thing is weird and I find it highly implausible that this one agent is representative of agents generally.
