TP for apologizing bud, just trying to highlight that attitude. The point I am trying to make is that draftniks have these player's relative relations at the top for a reason. I have never been very high on Ball, and actually think Tatum makes a good case for 3rd BPA, but I see why some think Ball could be special. And a prospect like Fox destroying Ball doesn't really change much for me. Fox still can't shoot, and Ball is still a great passer.

Fultz is my BPA not because of any game he had in college, but because of the skills he has shown. Almost every aspect of the game that current top PGs need, he projects to be average or elite at. It is extremely rare to talk about how a guy who isn't even 20 yet doesn't really have a weakness.  It just so happens that a lot of people who get paid to pour over tape tend to agree with that (or I agree with them.)

It isn't going to be some dark horse like Monk or Markannen who fly up and steal a spot at the top.

So I guess the question that is begging to be asked, who do you think would supplant Fultz or Ball in regards to draft position?

I would say, if DA were to throw a curveball, it would be not to supplant one of the studs at the top of the draft board but to trade down (if the return was right) if he REALLY believed in a guy like Monk or Isaac and he thought Thomas was going to be the Celtics point guard of the future.

If he got a nice haul for dropping three or four spots in the draft order, would it not be irresponsible to at least consider such a proposal?  Especially since he would be able to draft someone who wouldn't necessarily upset the order of things on the team.
I dunno, I'm just spit-ballin here....

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Way to get other members to post on his newly started threads...yikes!  :o

EDIT: just saw your apology - cool for you to do it so quickly..

Why is it a bad thing for other members to post in my newly started threads?

It isn't at all. What I meant (and I retract it now since you quickly apologized to BJim) was that it isn't helpful to the cause of your thread if you are going to pseudo-attack people who post something that you don't necessarily agree with.

That is all in the past now, though, and the thread is going strong!   :)

You are absolutely right. None of us have any idea whatsoever about what Danny will do. Maybe he is a little heavy on the sauce that day and goes against the eye test, the scouting consensus, and what others in the Celtics organization have said.

If there's one thing we know Danny won't do, it's go heavy on the sauce. Unless you're talking about an extra helping from Dickeys BBQ.

I really think we are in a great position, because if Fultz or Ball drop, we can get them.  Or, we can get Jackson - who is what we need and in my view the highest upside prospect.

Hypothetically, Fultz or Ball drop to us at the three spot, but Josh Jackson is gone . . . what does Ainge do?

-- Go Jayson Tatum, or a potential game-changing point guard of the future in Lonzo Ball or Markelle Fultz?

-- Does it matter which point guard is available, and who their parents are??

-- Or does DA throw everyone a curveball and select Fox?

-- Is trading down a few spots an option, in your opinion?  Maybe hoping someone like Isaac or  Monk are still available?

...Discuss! ;)

Pick / Selection

1. Fultz
2. Jackson
3. Ball
4. Tatum

I think that's where I am right now, too.

make it 4. I agree with this list.

I think Fultz is number 1 and 2-4 can go in any order, but Id parse it out like this.

I can dig it too, while acknowledging that Jackson has the highest floor coming into the league, while Ball has the highest ceiling. Agreed..

If Fultz and Ball are available at three, Danny will pass on them too because obviously the other two teams know something he must know too. LOL !!!

On a related note, I wouldn't be surprised if ball fell you number 4.  I'd take Tatum before him.  Not because of position mind you, I just think he's a better player.

I am torn between Fultz and Jackson. Tatum is third.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It's Futlz or bust for me.

He is the true franchise star of this draft and the biggest 'can't miss'.

We haven't seen a player with this complete of an offensive game in ...not sure how long....his skill and reading of the game are Hall of Fame caliber.
Like if there is going to be a James Harden level player in this draft, with longer arms and better defense- this is the guy.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm not convinced Josh Jackson isn't #1 for me. Right now I have him as 1b to Fultz' 1a.

Then I have Tatum as 3a and Ball as 3b, where 'a' is slightly preferred over 'b', but I don't have a solid opinion yet. I do have a solid opinion that Fultz and Jackson are better than Tatum and Ball, though.

So at number 3 with Fultz or Ball available: If it's Fultz, I grab him and I'm giddy about it. If it's Ball, I'm leaning toward Tatum right now.
