The max cap space does no good unless you can actually attract max players to sign with you. Who out of the 2017 FA fits that bill? Reaching and overpaying Gordon Hayward??

We did ok on that front last summer. Let's see what happens.

Lol, he's just saying that. We'll try for George in 2018, I still think we have a good shot. Also, we're building through the draft. Been saying this on this board but people want to ignore reality.

People ignore it because building through the draft makes no sense when you're the #2 seed in the conference.

I'm just telling you what they're going to do. I would recommend listening to Wyc's interviews. He literally said he thinks they can win a championship with this team. He said there may be a chance they don't need a superstar to win...Ainge and the front office have been pretty transparent.

Then why in god's name did we sign Horford? Makes no sense

They thought they had a shot at Durant. Besides, the Celtics will try to sign another max guy this offseason. It doesn't cost them any assets....

I'm not excited to waste IT's MVP-level season and one of Horford's last few seasons as an effective player.
i believe IT and horford are here for 2 reasons

number 1 is if we could make a trade to maximize them and capitalize on the now

number 2 (i feel the real reason) to appease the impatient fans while we build the future core
I trust Danny Ainge

I agree with Danny.  It's gonna be great having a top-3 pick in the draft 3 years in a row while being a top-5 team in the league.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
It's okay Tyler Zeller's shooting is the answer to our rebounding issues...

How is that an "answer"

Who is a hobbling Bogut going to take time away from anyway? Horford and KO are pretty locked in and Amir has looked great lately. Also, JJ gets time at the PF to spread the floor and guard perimeter oriented bigs.

I agree that we could use more rebounding, but it would also come at the expense of other things our team does well. Unless that big is a superstar (yeah, Cousins, I don't know what to tell you), I am not sure replacing Zeller - who does not play anyway - with Bogut is going to do much for us.

We as fans better hope they don't believe that, because if they do, then this team has bigger problems than we realize.  You don't need a superstar to win?  Get out of here with that.  There's one team, literally one, in the last 50 years that you can definitively say "that team didn't have a true superstar" and they still won the title...and that was the 2004 Pistons.  So essentially, if you want to just build a team based on depth and not having true superstar talent, that gives you about a 5% chance of winning a championship.

I really hope Ainge and Wyc don't believe that.

Agreed!  I think Horford was a mistake.  He just doesn't have the killer instinct we need on this team.  This is why I wanted Boogie so bad.  Regardless of his BS, he has the killer instinct and if he was put ina  winning environment, I believe he would go 100% every single night and would have made us an immediate contender.  Now all we have to look forward to is the draft lottery, IMO.  Raptors and Wizards both got even better.  We will end up seeing Cleveland in round 2... The league, for better or worse, mostly worse, currently belongs to the Warriors and Cleveland.  There's no need to jump the gun to finish second.

Hold out for a real game changer to become available, like an Anthony Davis, or continue to build through the draft and home grow your players into a long term, 10 year contender.

Standing pat at this deadline was the right choice.

They did?? The lost out on the one guy that sets this franchise a part and then signed an aging Horford

DANNY SUX!!

that's why we're an 8th seed team with no assets!

there's nowhere to go! we're officially on the treadmill

Exactly, TP. I'm a bit disappointed about Tucker, because he was so cheap, but I'm relieved. I'm hopeful we'll land Terrence Jones or Bogut after buyouts.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.
