I'm not excited to waste IT's MVP-level season and one of Horford's last few seasons as an effective player.
i believe IT and horford are here for 2 reasons

number 1 is if we could make a trade to maximize them and capitalize on the now

number 2 (i feel the real reason) to appease the impatient fans while we build the future core

In all seriousness, do we have any sure things in our "future core"?

There's an uncomfortable question. No surprise I don't see people lining up to answer it.

Are there any sure things in life? All we can do is weigh risk/opportunity, no?

Yeah, but building around a "young core" rather than building around an MVP candidate is especially risky when that "core" doesn't have a single surefire all-star, right?

Remember earlier this season when everyone said Boston didn't have a "star" or "cornerstone?"  Now suddenly we have to make move to build around our MVP candidate.

Funny how that works right?

Sure, and Danny seems to agree with you, which is why he was apparently willing to include this year's pick for George.

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Larry for having such outrageous demands.

What if there was a way to build around a superstar and keep the Nets pick?

Time will tell, but I think we'll regret holding on to our "assets".

what the heck is that coming out of his mouth...worm gummy?

and why does he look 15 pounds lighter in this pic?

I am not surprised by delusional Danny's hubris. It is the same answer every year. I wouldn't trust him to tell me the weather.

I doubt there will be any regrets at all. There is a reason that the price on Cousins was low. I would not blame any management team that is focused on building a successful long term business for passing on an asset that they had no desire to gamble $200 million on.

Im as excited as Danny for the draft.

Well done for not getting sucked in to crap deals at the deadline.

Trust the process.

The max cap space does no good unless you can actually attract max players to sign with you. Who out of the 2017 FA fits that bill? Reaching and overpaying Gordon Hayward??

Lol, he's just saying that. We'll try for George in 2018, I still think we have a good shot. Also, we're building through the draft. Been saying this on this board but people want to ignore reality.

People ignore it because building through the draft makes no sense when you're the #2 seed in the conference.

It makes total sense if you're building something that is sustainable and if the cost of getting your target is out of line then it's better to pass on it. Once you know the position of the 2017 pick it can be more valuable than it was earlier today.

Lol. I've been wondering that too.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Looks like they put Boogie's head on Ingram's body.

What do you mean by future?

IT - Can be legitimately mentioned in MVP talk.
Smart - Just keeps playing better.
Bradley - On pace to be at least a borderline all star.
Crowder - Great "glue guy" one maybe the best contact in the league.
KO - Legit offensive weapon.
Brown - Clearly not a bust.  Floor looks like pretty good NBA player.  Ceiling is sky high.
Rozier - NBA rotation player at minimum.
Young - Shown some life at long last.
Virtual lock for a top 4 pick in one of the most hyped drafts in years.
Virtual lock for lottery pick in the draft after that.
A bunch of extra picks after that.
Two promising draft-n-stash players.
Cap space to possible sign a max free agent this off season.

Is Ben Simmons any more of a sure thing than Michael Beasley?  Is Embiid a sure thing when he's averaging fewer than 30 minutes a game AND not playing back-to-backs but still can't make it through one season without a serious injury?

Sounds like the same kind of whining I heard during draft night. Many posters were cursing Danny for not getting a trade done. Now everyone (with the exception of a couple unmentionables who only enjoy losing and whose opinion doesn't matter) is excited about Brown and Zizic.

Here we  are, on pace for a mid 50s win season and 2nd place in the East and I'm hearing the same immature whining again. I guess it takes a while for some to remember that immediate gratification isn't always the best type.

Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

Everyone? News to me.  They're exciting, but there isn't much evidence (if any) to indicate either will be a star.

"2nd in the East" is inaccurate -- whether or not they finish 2nd, they aren't the 2nd best team anymore.  For that reason, it irks me to read Ainge's "I'm excited" comment.  In other words, "I'm excited despite the fact a division rival just became better than us."  If that fact's not apparent to you now, it will be come playoffs.  Book it.

Here's a hint - there's no award for getting bounced in 5 in the ECF. Not to us, Washington, Toronto or anyone else. The difference between us and all of those other teams is that we still have a full deck of cards to play. They don't. So even if we somehow now aren't "2nd best", that's likely to be a very temporary situation.

There's not? I hadn't though of that.  TP.

I've been an open advocate of slowly rebuilding through the draft to contend post-GSW and -CLE eras.  That's not what I am at all debating.  I don't think PG or Butler would've been a good decision.  I don't think marginal upgrades were, either.  But it is troubling to see bigs moved for pennies on the dollar w/out at least hearing the Celts tested the waters.

Ainge shouldn't be "excited."  Boogie is not longer an option, Butler may never be, and George has made his intentions clear.  What options do we have to make significant upgrades in the near future?  If you're passing along hints though... how do you see us contending, when, and by what means (necessary)?  You sound so confident that I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts.
