pj tucker went for sully and two 2nd's.. you saying we couldn't match that? nole went for bogut, Anderson and a first rounder.. amir, rozier and a first couldn't match that? and don't give me an excuse we need to keep rozier when we have Bradley, it, smart and possibly ball/fultz coming.. someone has to go... point is there were upgrades to make..

only thing that saves this is if we get bogut.. but rockets and cavs are in on it

Danny was working on the George deal. We don't know how the discussions went, but usually, you don't give up even minor assets for the PJ Tuckers of this world when you might need those assets as sweeteners to get the big deal done, and you don't know exactly your team needs either without knowing which players are still on your team after the big deal.

Yeah, it'd be nice if we could add Bogut, but it's nothing I lose sleep over, either. If nothing's out there, nothing's out there, and if it is, you can be sure Danny will be working on it.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

Nobody in their right mind is trading BKN 17' and 3 of Smart/Bradley/Crowder/Brown for George or let alone anybody outside of LeBron or Anthony Davis.

You'd ruin all the great work you had accomplished up to that point. Makes no sense.

Add a top 4 pick to the roster and a stud free agent. Easy decision.

I'm not excited to waste IT's MVP-level season and one of Horford's last few seasons as an effective player.
i believe IT and horford are here for 2 reasons

number 1 is if we could make a trade to maximize them and capitalize on the now

number 2 (i feel the real reason) to appease the impatient fans while we build the future core

In all seriousness, do we have any sure things in our "future core"?

There's an uncomfortable question. No surprise I don't see people lining up to answer it.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Are there any sure things in life? All we can do is weigh risk/opportunity, no?

Yeah, but building around a "young core" rather than building around an MVP candidate is especially risky when that "core" doesn't have a single surefire all-star, right?

Sure, and Danny seems to agree with you, which is why he was apparently willing to include this year's pick for George.

If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Larry for having such outrageous demands.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I think he should have at least went and gotten Andrew Bogut, to solve the rebounding.

Amir and a 2nd may have sufficed. Sure, there's a bit of risks with injuries but its not like were risking too much. I get standing pat with the Nets picks, but we are in a situation were we could afford to not be stingey with the 2nd rounders. Thought he should have at least gambled on one of those.

Of course this will be a moot point if we get him after his buyout. If...

I'm only on the second page reading at the moment lol but thought I would comment on this.

I've gone back and forth on this and I see your point, but picture this Brown turns into having Horford level career, and either the 17 or 18 Nets pick gets us a player that will have a Thomas like career.  It's a big if though but if it plays out that way it gives you 2 big core pieces to build around in their early 20s, and you control them for a long time.

Plus maybe in the offseason we can land a big free agent that won't cost us any assets but money, and hopefully Thomas and Horford have similar type seasons at least the next year or 2, we have the rookie from the Nets pick, and other other young players continue to grow while still having Crowder and Bradley. Maybe Kelly too.  That's my dream anyway.

I'm disappointed. This team was built on incremental improvements and we couldn't even do that. IMO, there's a ton of pressure to get something done in the offseason since it'll be the last time we'll have cap flexibility for a while.

C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

What if there was a way to build around a superstar and keep the Nets pick?

Time will tell, but I think we'll regret holding on to our "assets".
