I don't think alone he gets us there. But man he's a huuuuuuge step in the right direction. Add a big man like Drummond and we're as good as any team in the league.

IT
Smart/Bradley/Rozier whomever is left
Butler
Horford
Drummond

Tell me that team can't win a title.

If we're not making moves, why in the heck did we sign Horford anyways?

Tell me how you could possibly make the math for Drummond work after adding Butler at the deadline.

See the Cavs are paying out the wazoo to win titles .....to beat them ....we will have to forget the stupid cap ......it's really up to the owners ......Cleveland is willing to pay the bill to win.

  • A true Celtic plays with heart.
Why are we giving up Smart, Bradley or Crowder/2017 Nets pick for someone like Butler who hasn't shown leadership, and is the classic case of great numbers on a bad team?

It would all depend on the deal for Butler, but yes it would be a challenge. Honestly, I'd prefer to add Drummond over Butler. This team as currently constructed is not built for a deep playoff run..

Anyone who honestly thinks we're going to win a title with our own little version of Philly's Process here with "The Assets" is dreaming. Vets win in the NBA period..

Your last statement is a good question. I hope the answer isn't "to sell season tickets."

Van Gundy just said Drummond isn't on the market, and he has had no trade discussions for him. Ainge remains interested in Okafor, who is definitely on the market.

Butler isn't supposed to be on the market, either, but the media thinks there are talks going on.
Crowder seems to be slowing things down. Ainge wants to trade Bradley, not Crowder, who is cheaper. But Butler is more of a 3, so how does Crowder fit with Butler? At the 2? But that's Smart/IT. Danny has to sort this out.

I think they need Butler plus Bogut to have a real shot at the Cavs. Less of a shot with just Bogut. Butler is better than Crowder.

I dont doubt wyc's willingness to pay a massive bill for a contender.

The question is squeezing Drummond and Butlers contracts in within the rules of the salary cap.

Of course Van Gundy is saying that. What is he supposed to say, we're working the phones to unload Drummond constantly..

Appeasement of the fans while we go through "the Process"?

It isn't that difficult.  Butler and Drummond make just under 40 million this year.  You can acquire Butler for Bradley and Brown (and draft picks).  You can acquire Drummond for no more salary than just Johnson and Zeller (then add draft picks).

Not difficult at all.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Are we talking a Cavs team without Love? Because if Love can't come back, or comes back at 75%...
we have a shot.

Keep in mind it sounds like we're discounting Toronto and Washington and I wouldn't.

Oh...and Drummond doesn't fit the style the C's play on offense.

Not all styles just magically fit together because they're available for trade. IT's game completely changes with Drummond in the lineup.

Funny, I heard the opposite argument on a video. I'll leave it to Stevens and Ainge to sort it out.

I will say Drummond is closer to Bill Russell than anyone they have. And Bill did not exactly fit into the Celtics offense in '57. In fact, he couldn't shoot for beans. But he rebounded like crazy. You know the result.
