Not sure why it's "thankfully". Ibaka would have been a straight upgrade over Johnson, and I'd much rather have him with us than with the Raptors.

The issue seems to be more having to resign him and the cap flexibility that would cost than what it would take to get him. But I'm not sure that should've been the biggest consideration in our current spot. Ibaka doesn't put us over Cleveland, let alone GS, but he'd be another nice step forward, and someone we could've potentially packaged in a star trade down the line.

Wait for what?  It seems every time DA doesn't make a deal, the guys ends up being traded for a return that we could have easily beaten.  This one a certainly no exception.

Another point:  Conference rival Toronto just got better and the Celtics did not.  If DA had made the deal it would have been the other way around.  No longer optimistic about making it to the ECF.

Yeah we could always put in a similar package and be like "oh hey, and here's three Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ty second rounders to sweeten the deal" if we wanted to.  Can only assume we weren't interested because we're still holding out hope for a bigger in-season deal (not saying it will happen, but FO must think that chances are not zero.)

Although I find the pick and Ross entirely expendable from Toronto's point of view,  I am not all that concerned that this makes Toronto significantly better.  When healthy, Toronto is dangerous.  Now they are a little stronger in the front court and a little weaker in the back court (in terms of depth).  The pick will be in the 20's and they had two of them.  I understand why Toronto would do this but I don't think they are all that much more dangerous.

This may have been more about blocking Boston who Ibaka really would have helped.

Danny will do something.  I have been thinking Monroe all along (which could be a good but not great move).  There are not that many options left.

Agreed.

Ibaka may have been a useful 1 year player, but I'm not 100% sure he's worth giving up assets if the Celtics are convinced that they can maybe snag someone else instead.

I'm okay with steadying the course, and seeing how our team does.

I still think if the Celtics are engaged, locked in, and healthy that even with Ibaka added to the Raptors, that we're a better team. In terms of depth, and chemistry with one of the youngest and brightest coaches steering us.

I've been telling you guys to stop expecting a trade to happen. Ainge has been stingy with his assets. Think about what he traded for Thomas, who at the time was 25 and a 20 point a game scorer. He only does deals that are one sided.

He's saving his assets for a star. Toronto officially has a better starting 5 then us imo. They're trying to win a ring this year, which makes sense if you look at their timeline. However, we are not. Unless a star becomes available, I don't see us improving this roster unless it's a 2nd round pick for Bogut.

My feeling is that the impediment to the deal was Orlando's GM needing to save his job.  He wants things that can help his team next season. We weren't going to offer Brown or this year's Brooklyn pick.  Either would be a gross overpay.  Aside from those, our best trade assets are expiring contracts and picks in 2018-2019.

Toronto was able to offer a 1st in this draft and a rotation guy under contract for 3 more years.  I'm sure we could have gotten Ibaka for Bradley, Smart, or Crowder, but none of those would be a good deal for us.  Unfortunately the assets that Orlando wanted most were not the long-term assets we could offer.  They are impatient, as even the trade acquiring Ibaka showed, and it just wasn't to be.

Ibaka will stay in Toronto. IMO. It would be hard for us to keep him. Holford wants to ba 4 and so doe he. I like our team. We have a big coming from last year's draft. Sac Kings have some extras not named Cousins. Glad the trade front is not quiet.

Yeah, I would not have done that either...could be used for a bigger fish.
