Interesting question:

Who would trade the rights of Zizic straight up for Okafor?

The Legend of Zizic for the most hated player on CelticsBlog?

It'd be temping - if for no other reason than to watch the Garnett trade-style meltdown.

And we all know how that worked out.
hold up...

"Garnett trade-style meltdown"

what are you talking about?
i believe he might be saying that the cb hub bub and frenzy that would follow the zizic for okafur trade would rival that of the trade for garnett....but even then i dont think i understand what he is saying.  :P

He's referring to how people lost their minds when we traded Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green etc for Garnett.

i.e. people had really latched onto those players and freaked out about losing the "potential" those young guys had, even though the player coming back was established as an MVP caliber talent, even if he was already in his 30s.

Okafor is hardly an established talent, though certainly more proven than Zizic.
I wasn't on the blog at the time but I have a really hard time believing that anything more than a tiny percentage of Celtics fans didn't love that trade.

You would be completely wrong. The outrage on this site for having traded away youth and picks for Garnett was incredible. There was a front page poll that was over 70% against the trade with hundreds of replies. I might be off on the percenrage but it was ridiculously large.

That's not quite how I remember it. Fans were down on the rumored trade which originally included Big Al and the #5 (and no third star), and were mostly down on the Ray trade. Once we traded for KG, though, I think the vast majority of fans were excited.

I don't remember it that way either. Most people were for that trade. Or maybe my memory is colored by my own reaction. I was against the Garnett trade when it was rumored to include the #5 pick, Big Al, Gerald Green and others. I thought it was too much to pay for an aging star with a lot of wear on his tires. When it no longer included #5 I was all for it.

Of course the trade I got wrong was the one for Ray Allen. I was on vacation at the time in Yellowstone and was cussing Ainge for being so stupid as to trade away a #5 pick for an old Jesus Shuttleworth. It seemed like a stupid waste at the time.
Jaylen Brown will be an All Star in the next 5 years.

I don't remember that Garnett reaction because I felt the opposite. I immediately snatched up season tix when that deal happened. I felt like that commercial of people hearing on the radio that the C's traded for KG.

That's how I remember it also.  The Ray trade seemed like a treadmill move but most of us were thinking championship after we got KG.

You are correct.  I was one of the few people that actually liked the Allen trade because to me it finally signaled Ainge was picking a direction and I was happy about that.  Most people hated that trade though.  Once the final shoe dropped, i.e. Garnett, almost everyone was happy because everyone knew Boston was a real and legit contender for at least a couple of seasons (which is how it worked out).

The only players I can see entice 76ers to make a trade are Hield or a package including Jones

will NO give up on these players?

NO needs to avoid giving up the 2017 1st

It sounds like it's either Ajinca or Asik and a protected first for Okafor, with the protections and the year dependent upon which contract Philly elects to eat. Old friend Etwuan Moore may be included as well, if you believe internet conspiracy theories.

Ajinca wants out of NO and is the more useful of those two in today's NBA. I can't see the Sixers eating Asik's deal AND trading away Okafor for just a protected 1st.

Depends on how protected the first is. There's a huge difference between, say, a pick with only top-3 protections starting this season and a 2018 first with full lottery protection that eventually turns into two second-rounders. Ajinca will also want out of Philly because he won't get any more playing time there than he does in New Orleans (unless Embiid is done for the season, maybe), so I kind of expect Philly to just stretch whichever contract they eat if a deal gets made.

So post-Nurkic trade, it's down to NO or Chi?  Outside of NO's unprotected 2017, it will be a pretty paltry return for the sixers.

Okafor is the worst player I've ever seen.  Based on the Nurkic trade, I expect Philadelphia to need to give up two 1sts in order to dump Okafor.  He's at least twice as bad as Nurkic.
