Like, say you make a blockbuster trade for Butler and settle on a decent trade for Melo (with his dwindling trade value).
I'm expecting Bradley, Zeller AND/OR Amir gone in the trade (and some other young pieces/lots of picks).
So does an IT/Butler/Carmelo/Olynyk/Horford starting five along with a bench of Brown/Smart/Crowder/Jerebko/etc. make noise in the playoffs? Or is that a really bad team that doesn't fit together.
With defensive players around him, Melo could focus on his own thing, and that's scoring, while Butler and his elite two-way presence can be a big factor. Essentially you ease the pressure off of IT, and have three legit scorers on the team with a good bench as well. I think that team definitely overtakes Toronto but still a little bit away from Cleveland/Golden State. Only real issue is still the "BIGS" problem (rebounding).
