Why not trade for both? This could be a great buy-low opportunity to compete for a title this season, facilitate a trade that consolidates our roster now for when we have to add 2017 pick, Zizic, Yabu in to the fold.
Orlando trades: Vucevic and Ibaka
Boston trades: Amir, KO, Rozier, Jerbeko, Mickey, Rights to Nader, Boston 2018, Clippers 2019, Min 2nd
(trade also works by subbing in Zeller for Amir, if Orlando had interest in Zeller as a prospect)
Orlando gets cap flexibility from moving Vucevic for Amir/Jerbeko's expiring deals. KO is also expiring, but they can offer him a mid-level deal and is a decent piece to their rebuild. Rozier and Mickey are two more promising prospects that NEED minutes that they just aren't going to ever get with our current roster (especially Rozier if we draft Fultz/Ball). They also get more draft stock that they will desperately need.
Trade is an obvious upgrade for Boston, and is only possible if Orlando is truly looking to acquire assets for guys that are not part of their 5-year plan. We address our rebounding and rim protection issues in a big way by adding not only Ibaka to start next to Horford, but also Vucevic, who can keep both guys fresh, also spot-start, and is a huge insurance policy in case of an injury.
New rotation is dope:
IT/Smart/Jackson
Bradley/Smart/Brown/Young
Crowder/Brown/Green
Ibaka/Horford
Horford/Vucevic/Zeller
Maybe I'm over-hyping this squad, but I think it can definitely hang with Cleveland in a 7-game series, and the size would give the Warriors fits.
When the season ends, we still retain Vucevic. Ibaka can be re-evaluated. Best case scenario: he is revived, we win a title, and he gets a close to max deal as the missing complimentary big man we have needed. Worst case: we get bounced in the ECF by Cleveland like most people expect anyway, Ibaka walks, and we call up Zizic and Yabu to see if they can provide some help to the boards.
This also leaves the door open for the home-run swing for Jimmy Butler.....Smart, Jackson, rights to Yabu, BKN 2018 or something along those lines....
