I started a thread about him last year but now I'm not so interested, I thought his decline was due to the rise of Steve Adams and hm being unhappy in OKC, but now it looks he really is declining.

Also, is he going to demand max contract this summer? if so we are basically talking about renting him for half a season right?

The report said Magic want to get back picks and young prospects, so basically they are admitting the deal they did last summer with OKC was terrible and now they are trying to revert it.
I know armchair GMing is easy, and franchises make sure they sell tickets, but I just don't know in what world you look at the magic, Bulls, Memphis and, to a lesser extent, the Knicks and think "right, here is a contender". Or even something close to a contender. You could point to the Perk trade, but Danny hasn't really put a foot wrong through trade or FA.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Where's the risk if we can let him go in summer ?

He's going to cost actual assets, so if he walks in the summer you just set a couple of first-rounders or Jaylen Brown's rookie contract on fire for a three-month rental.

I think we need to hold our horses on a Jaylen Brown-Ibaka swap. I think it is far more likely to be something like Amir-Rozier-Memphis pick. Now I really have no interest in Ibaka now that he is in his mid-30s  :o  but Orlando can't expect lottery pick and top prospect for what has to be seen as a very disappointing experience.

Well, reports right now are that Orlando's looking for a good young player and a decent pick, or two good picks, for Ibaka. I agree that they won't get their asking price, but Ibaka doesn't have the same no-trade-clause situation that Carmelo does, so somebody's probably jumping in with a halfway decent offer to get his bird rights and re-sign him over the summer - I'd keep an eye on Toronto, Charlotte, and Portland - that'll move the price up a bit. At the end of the day, though, their GM just traded probably their best young player and a lottery pick for Ibaka, so cashing out for an expiring and a protected first is tantamount to handing in his resignation.

I don't think anybody that's advocating for letting him go this summer would agree with trading any top flight assets for him

Actually, I don't think anybody is advocating for trading any top flight asserts for him in general. He's just not worth it as a 3 month rental even if you might resign him
I'm bitter.

I saw nothing in his game against us that makes me want to trade anybody we got other than Young or Zeller.

OKC s GM fleeced Orlando ,  they knew his play was going away ,  so did KD most likely .

He is playing like a 37 year old KG did ....if that.

We shouldn't offer any real valuable assets for Ibaka, that way if it's a rental, we don't lose out on too much.

Amir Johnson's expiring, along with maybe James Young/Demetrious Jackson and a couple of 2nd round picks should be the starting offer and go from there.

If Orlando asks for 1st rounders, then no deal. Either players and/or multiple 2nd's.

Apparently, we've expressed interest in him.

Is that the Smitty guy from RealGM, though?

Yes.
Keith Smith was asked about this and he said that all he said was that the Celtics have expressed interest in the past. This is mostly hogwash.

Ibaka and Horford are not great together, as neither are premier rebounders. I would ship Horford for Ibaka, their 2017 first round pick, and change. I'm guessing Orlando doesn't want to do that.
The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing.

Ibaka for Horford? That makes no sense. We would want to step backward. Another draft pick? C'mon---we want to win sometime soon not in 6 years.

Is this the point where someone suggests trading IT4 for Ibaka?

LOL.

I haven't watched enough Orlando to know if Serge is really in decline or if he's being misused. The latter is certainly possible.

I would trade for Ibaka (on the cheap) but to suggest we trade a piece we got for the long-term - a player that plays like a Celtic (Horford) - is absolutely absurd. Maybe when he sobers up he will have a better option like Amir Johnson and a 2nd rounder or Amir + Young - either of which I could live with for the rest of the season.

Keith Smith shouldn't count as a reliable reporter.

I'd give Zeller, Young and the Memphis 1st.

The pick alone should be enough to make it worth it for Orlando hopefully,  as they risk otherwise losing him for nothing.

I wouldn't be keen on offering much (if any) more then that due to
(a) The risk of Ibaka walking and
(b) The probable cost of re-signing him if he does decide to stay.

He doesn't solve our rebounding woes but he's a worthwhile upgrade over Amir defensively, a massive upgrade over Amir offensively, and he's still only 27 years old.  It's probably worth the gamble.

I would prefer to not use Amir in this trade as his $12M expiring deal is a valuable asset for salary matching if a bigger deal (e.g. Butler / Melo) comes along.

Right now, Ibaka is pretty much Al Horford without the passing -- he'll score some points, he'll shoot and make threes, he will block some shots and will be a mediocre rebounder. He's probably still a strict upgrade over Amir, and I'd part with Amir and multiple first rounders that are not Brooklyn picks, but that's about it.
