Where's the risk if we can let him go in summer ?
He's going to cost actual assets, so if he walks in the summer you just set a couple of first-rounders or Jaylen Brown's rookie contract on fire for a three-month rental.
I think we need to hold our horses on a Jaylen Brown-Ibaka swap. I think it is far more likely to be something like Amir-Rozier-Memphis pick. Now I really have no interest in Ibaka now that he is in his mid-30s
but Orlando can't expect lottery pick and top prospect for what has to be seen as a very disappointing experience.
Well, reports right now are that Orlando's looking for a good young player and a decent pick, or two good picks, for Ibaka. I agree that they won't get their asking price, but Ibaka doesn't have the same no-trade-clause situation that Carmelo does, so
somebody's probably jumping in with a halfway decent offer to get his bird rights and re-sign him over the summer - I'd keep an eye on Toronto, Charlotte, and Portland - that'll move the price up a bit. At the end of the day, though, their GM just traded probably their best young player and a lottery pick for Ibaka, so cashing out for an expiring and a protected first is tantamount to handing in his resignation.
