I cant believe their fans support this team... One of the worst team ever... Have they even made the playoffs in the past? Unmemorable

And this is another dummy move that moves the franchise nowhere

It's funny, because there seem to be more irritated Celtics fans than Kings fans these days

Even more irritated after last night's loss.

Kings fans know their team is dysfunctional.

It's also impressive Sixers fans have hung with this team for so long but I mean, Charles Barkley is right.. in 3-5 years the Sixers will be perennial contenders with Embiid/Simmons and either Fultz/Ball, etc. etc.
Their future depends only on if Embiid can stay healthy, and that's a huge IF

He'd be stupid if he turned down that money. Smart move on his part.
Can't disagree more on this, there are something you can't buy,ex:winning
especially if you are an millionaire, yes it's a HUGE money but does it really makes so much difference in your life?

My guess is he want's to stay because he wants to be the BOSS on the team and can do whatever he wants
Did Kevin Garnett not want to win when he signed that big deal in Minnesota?  What about Dirk, he kept re-upping in Dallas on a team with very limited success, before they finally got over the hump?  Plenty of reasons to want to stay where you are.  I mean he might just like living in Sacramento.  Maybe he sees progress and likes the coach and management.  Maybe he wants to see it through.  I mean people gave Lebron James so much crap because he left Cleveland to go to a place where he could win.

Well, I think a lot of that crap was the manner in which he did it (which was self-inflicted).

Sure there was some of that, but there was also an awful lot he didn't stay and build a champion like Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc. talk.  Similar to what Durant got for jumping ship to Golden State.

Probably because what he & Durant have in common was that they jumped to, essentially, super teams.  One that was already constructed (GSW & Durant) and one that was established at that moment (LeBron).

A lot of the backlash was that they guys were trying to win championships the easy way.  A lot of the sports public doesn't like that.  Hence, the backlash.

Not saying its justified or not, but that's just the way it is.

Maybe that'll finally cut the number of Cousins threads on here in half (ha....who am I kidding?).

Nah.  I've been of the opinion for a while (since the new designated vet extensions were known) that Cousins would sign one and then try to force a trade a year later.  It won't be long until others grab onto that idea.

You're our resident cap expert.  How does this potential extension work?

Cousins will still have 1 year and $18m left on his contract when (if) he signs an extension this summer (which would probably start around $36m, right?), would that replace his final year and start immediately?  Or would it go into effect after his current contract runs out?

I have to imagine it's going to be a lot harder to acquire a guy like Cousins with that huge contract until the rest of the C's non-star players salaries catch up.  Unless of course you want to trade Horford and filler for Cousins...

While the CBA hasn't been finalized, my understanding is that he will be eligible to sign a six-year deal this summer, starting at $36 million, that erases his final year and continues an additional 5 years.  Assuming he gets max raises, the contract would be for six years, $259.5 million.

To compare apples to apples, if Cousins were to play out his contract and sign a new deal with someone other the Kings, it would be for four years and about $138 million.  If we add in the $18 million he's scheduled to make next year, that would be $156 million over the next 5 seasons.  In those same 5 seasons, he'd make $209 million from the Kings, or about 33% more.  It's a lot of money in both cases, but there's still a huge difference.

As for having the salaries, we'd need about $29 million salaries to send out next year.  We're going to sign some larger deals next summer -- we should have about $22 million in cap room plus Olynyks new deal, or $30 million if Olynyk is not there.  The Brooklyn pick, who's presumably a part of any Boogie deal, will make $5-7 million.  It won't be that hard, all things considered.  Should take about 3 contracts.  The biggest issue is that while I do think Cousins will try to force a trade before long, I don't expect SAC to give in.

Has anyone asked Cousins what he wants out of his professional career.

Not every player needs a championship to make their personal or professional lives complete. The NBA produces one champion a year. Not every player is going to win a championship. Cousins primary job is to play basketball as entertainment for paying customers. He can do that job and do it well without winning a championship.

He appears to be doing his job judging by what teams are wiling to pay for him. That is enough for some players. Not every player wants to chase rings.

I don't care what occupation you're in.  Passing up roughly 33% additional income is a HUGE chunk of change.

Sure, you can argue that these guys are way overpaid in the great scheme of society but you're also taking about an earning window for their skill set that is much smaller than the average person.

Can't fault these guys for chasing the dollar.  Most people would in that instance.

Shaq is part owner , his money is invested too,  so you don't run off the act that lines your pockets.

I suspect the front office has him advising Cousins .

That said ....if Shaq really cares , he'll advise Cousins to leave for greener pastures .  Like he did.

Cousins is also their only attraction on the team really.  Just like Howard and Shaq were in Orlando during the when he was dominate and world class player .

He has all those guys in his ear telling himof the money .

Eventually he wakes up one morning and decides ,  playing on a championship team is more important and moving is no big deal.

Took LeBron and Kg a long time befor they surrendered and left.

Would be tough for him to pass up the money he's gonna get.

All this just doesn't make sense. Cousins said he is angry because he wants to win and tired of losing and now he will resign? Maybe he just wants to sign that deal and get traded year later?

And the Kings? Continuing to lose years with offering new deal? Why not trade him and start fresh? No free agents will sign there, so even if he stays how they gonna become better?

Chase the money first.  Get it.  Do the complaining later.

For the Kings, I don't see much incentive to not try & keep him.

They should trade him. I think trade value quite big now and not sure it will be bigger when he is 2-3 years older

If Cousins isn't dealt at the deadline, he is staying for sure.

Kings would NOT get much value for an expiring deal this summer, so they will likely extend him, which is the likely route as we're seeing in reports.
