This thread is ridiculous. For those saying yes, I can't even fathom why. No way you trade a cost controlled, up and coming franchise type player, whose worth is equal on the court as it in the locker room, for a 32 year old expiring contract, free agent to be.
Ludicrous...
What's ludicrous is your indoctrination of Smart as a franchise player. Let's have him shoot above 35% from the field over a full season before we even assume he has that potential. Smart is a role player and Paul Millsap is the perfect player for Stevens system and a top PF in the league. I don't care if Millsap is expiring or 32, he's a lot better player than Smart at a position that we need tons of help at. Smart is a free agent next year anyways and I can almost guarantee you that anything that he would demand on the market is more than he is worth.
Not only that, but we have a high draft pick in a strong point guard draft where we could potentially land an elite point guard prospect.
Well a lot of value is placed on Smart's work ethic and age, but I do think that milsap is pretty overrated. Although his value is higher than Smart's atm, we do need a guy like Smart more than Milsap (the PF we need is a young Ibaka/Faried type of PF,not Paul Milsap while Smart fills mutiple positions from 1 to 3)
Faried is not a good fit because he's not a shooter or a shotblocker. How is Millsap overrated? He can guard 1-4, he can play 3/4, he can be a go-to scorer in spurts, he hits the 3, he's a good defender, he can pass the ball, he can do just about anything you need on the basketball court.
Despite the unbelievable Celtics bias, there is no GM in the league that wouldn't trade Millsap for Smart straight up.
What is so enticing about Smart?!? I don't get it. Yes he plays winning basketball, but so does Millsap and he puts up the wins/stats to prove it!!!
The only player that's drastically overrated in this situation is Smart. You said that Millsap was overrated how?
